80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 tennisjoel (32) Rochester, Minnesota | August 7, 2006 Good place. I went here with JK. Great beer selection compared to most places. I didn’t order food but the menu looked appetizing. A little pricey, but, what do you expect to pay when ordering Rochefort, Storm King, Hog Heaven, many other quality brews. My only complaint was that they didn’t have Surly Furious which I have been waiting to try. Sounds like they had it before but not now. I did get to try the Surly Cynicale, a solid saison however. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 beertime (2) Minnesota | February 25, 2006 I took the day off and went on a beer bar tour and started at The Happy Gnome. I also wanted to find out where the new beer tastings where. There was a decent selection of tap handles (18 I believe) and a nice selection of bottles. Surly,Rogue, Victory, Bells, Avery, and a Delirium Tremens are a few on draft. Service was great and bartender knew alot about beer. There is not alot to the menu as far as options but my appetizer was very good. A little on the spendy side $5-8 for drafts but you get what you pay for. I would go back. Looking forward to the Victory tasting. | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 19/20 JK (205) Uptown, Minneapolis, Minnesota | February 18, 2006| Updated March 27, 2011 I liked O’Haras and this place has the same cool ambiance. I went there specifically to try Surly but it was not tapped yes. Good selection like the nearby Muddy Pig. Bartender was friendly. They have cut back on their selection. The choices are still far better than an average bar, but not even close to the Muddy Pig only a few blocks away. Beer and food are quite expensive. 5/8/-/-/12 ----Rarate March 27, 2011. My last rating is far too dated. The Happy Gnome has the best selection of any bar/restaurant in the Twin Cities. Rare beers are available here. Prices are high. Service is usually friendly, if busy. The food is always good. A great ambiance here, I would not hesitate to take a date. Try to sit in the bar area, or on the patio in the summer. Highly recommended. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 footbalm (63) Western Minneapolis Suburbs, Minnesota | January 25, 2006| Updated March 27, 2011 I have been there twice now as I was very impressed the first time I felt driven to come back agagin just to make sure the great food wasn’t a fluke. Lenghty selection of brews and the owner was more than happy to talk beer for almost 20 minutes. They have a keg of Batch 7000 waiting to be tapped.Did I mention Oak Aged Yeti in a bomber?? Or Kasteel Brune on tap??? | 92 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 BitterPoet (5) Minneapolis, Minnesota | January 4, 2006| Updated March 27, 2011 Finally got around to checking this place out. I went on a Monday afternoon, having the day off. As I was one of only a few people there, the service was great. I would have to re-rate on a busier night. The selection is everythng a beer geek, I mean enthusiast, would want. For me, on a day like this, the ability to enjoy a fine cigar is a big plus. They seem to have installed some nice ionizers, so even with other smokers, it wasn’t a problem. I will go there again, at an off time, to enjoy another fine beer (in proper glassware) and another fine cigar. |
