70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 tcane7 (30) Pennsylvania | May 16, 2013 I a somewhat questionable area. I don’t like walking around there when it is dark. Good mix of people from young hipsters, people there for the beer, long time locals. Good selection of beer and they have some very good events. If you like pumpkin beer, there event is great (or at least it was 3 or 4 years ago recently it has been too packed for my taste). Solid bar food with plenty of vegetarian options. Nice selection of whiskey too. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 italianjohn (150) Penndel, Pennsylvania | August 14, 2012 Another philly bar where two blocks in any direction is kind of iffy, cool and simple downstairs bar with a decent tap list, bottle list was mostly local and micro nothing special, bartender was nice, but he had no clue about beer ... the upstairs is nice with booths and wii’s with a small venue area ... the events are definitely a reason to come here .... foods decent try the pin up burger (reese’s syrup, dark chocolate syrup and bacon on a burger) .... beer selection was micro and a decent variety but the hop-15 was 9 bucks for a glass which is a rip ... burger was 12 bucks most pints were $6.50 which is kind of typical ... I’d def come back for an event here, but thats about it | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 timp718 (10) Florida | August 2, 2012 Good little "out of the way" place, friendly staff and good food. Selection aimed at the local stuff, thumbs up. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 Capa (248) Manama, Bahrain | August 15, 2011 I’ve been here a handful of times and it’s always a great time. Serves up a wide range of beers on tap, many that are next to impossible to find in Philadelphia. The bottle list is pretty extensive, too. One of the more laid back craft beer bars in the area, as well. Something that Philly lacks. The barkeep is always helpful and quick to offer up a taste of something if you aren’t sure. Prices are some of the best in the city, too. Food is top-notch. Tater tots rock. Wide selection of board games, too. Monopoly, Stratego, sorry, battleship, etc. The area it calls home is just north of downtown but between Northern Liberties and the Art Museum area- not the best part of town, sadly. Great little bar and a sure stop if you’re in town. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 chugmaster (3) , | January 29, 2011 Me and friend went to the bar reboot party and saw one of the most original tap systems on the east coast. They custom built it out of galvanized pipe and the rest of the backbar is made out of pipe also really adds to the decor. The bartender was great we didn’t know were to start with there expanded taps so he gave us samples untill we found something deffinatly going back. | 66 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 13/20 MrChopin (100) Baltimore, Maryland | April 19, 2010 Been here several times. Small, mostly wood bar with dim lighting and dark atmosphere. Didn’t try any food. 12 taps, rotate slowly and often of a specific style based on up-coming or recent event. Happy Hour is a great deal, but I was a little put-off after my friends and I spent $50 in an hour and then the bartender wouldn’t serve us happy hour prices at 6:01PM. Definitely worth it for the prices, but definitely room for improvement. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 15/20 bp (57) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | June 20, 2009 Visited the Institute for their 1 year anniversary. They a located in an area of the city that is a bit rundown still. Plenty of parking space and not a bad walk from center city. I think it is safe enough. The 1 yr ann was great - Canadian Breakfast Stout, ST Cuvee, Lenny RIPA and some other nice rare beers on draft. The place has a nice upstairs area with booths and plenty of seating downstairs as well. They also have Wii’s for people to use. Beer prices were some of the best I’ve seen in the city. Worth checking out. |
