98 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 20/20 motografixx (1) | June 24, 2007 For me, it doesn’t get much better. Two things do it for me - a great patio and a huge selection of beer. It is the longest list of beer I have seen in the state of Alabama and rivals some of the top establishments that I have visited. You can enjoy something new or an old favorite on their patio/porch and relax as it should be. Bring some friends and prepare to relax and enjoy. The owners and staff are very attentive and trying very hard to build a first class establishment with a first call beer selection. I would recommend The J. Clyde to anyone. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 20/20 beckstein (17) | June 23, 2007| Updated May 10, 2010 Had to update my rating on the service. Their staff is greatly improved. The folks know beer. Place really comes alive when the weather is nice. Best selection of beer in many states! Definitely in my top 25. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 brentfeesh (80) Gadsden, Alabama | May 16, 2007| Updated May 20, 2010 I’ve been several times since their opening and every experience has been an enjoyable one. The two times I’ve been in the evenings were weekends and they had live music. The band was outside on their very well shaded airy patio area. 2 person jazz bands that were just right on volume and mood. They fit right in and added to the ambiance (I did not have to yell to be heard or to hear). The one time I have been their in the afternoon they had NASCAR on the wide screen outside. Both times it has not been crowded and the service has been fine. The food has been OK and they are still tinkering with the menu so I suspect it will keep improving. As for beer, you won’t find a larger selection in Alabama. And while that is not saying much they are certainly trying and will be well ahead of the curve when we eventually “Free the Hops”. Some beers/Brewers of note: Rodenbach and Rodenbach Grand Crew, Terrapin, Brick Store, Sweetwater, Rogue, Pilsner Urquell, Flying Dog, Left Hand, Ommegang, Shiner, Samuel Smith, and many others from around the country and world. Watch out for this place when we change the alcohol laws.
I’ve been here twice since they have changed the laws and opened their larger bar. Both times I spent time in the larger bar area as opposed to the back. I like the both areas but for drinking beer, I actually like the larger bar area better. Their beer selection continues to improve by leaps and bounds. The serving staff is definately into the beer and are able to make some pretty good suggestions. The last two times I’ve been there I was able to have a couple of brews I never expected to see in Alabama. Keep it up guys! |
