This place was the epic seedy beer dive bar. Tiny, loud, great food, great characters and great damn beer.
Absolute shame they closed down, the joint that replaced it sucks. (different owners).
The trip to Alpine was a catastrophy in the making, too far out and the locals just couldnít support the joint. Was there on closing night in Alpine, a toast to the sadness and the once great epicness of the Liarís Club. May you someday rise again from the ashes!
Stopped in for lunch on our way through San Diego. Nice, bright and clean. Wait staff helpful. Food was great, I had a club with the sweet potato fries and it was great. Kids meals available was a plus. Since I was driving I only had one beer so I made it count with a Russian River Pliny the Elder. Very nice. Great stop.
This is my kind of bar. Lots of delicious beer, the food was excellent, and the environment is a bar, a true bar. I could live at this place.

Visited the new place in Alpine with my wife about three weeks ago, we were on our way back from Viejas and decided to stop by. The new place is very clean and respectable. We sat at a table (not the bar) and I ordered up an Alesmith Nautical Nut-brown with a Cajun burger. Stacey had some other darn burger that was just way too big for her to eat. The burgers were excellent, better than any chain. The fries were also some of the best I’ve ever had. When we left I picked up a couple of bottles to go which included a Rodenbach Grand Cru. Very nice, will stop by every time I go to Viejas.
Checked out the new Liarís Club in Alpine on my way back from Alpine beer Co. I was very impressed. The tap wall was awesome, food was great, and the bartender really knew what he was talking about. If youíre in Alpine, check it out for sure!

I hadnít been to Liarsí in a while. On my weekly stop by Alpine Beer Company for a growler fill, my favorite employee informed me that they had moved from Mission Beach to Alpine. Even better, about 20 minutes from my arrival they were due to tap a cask of Alpines Exponential Hoppiness at the new location.
A short hop over to the club and I was seated at the bar. I ended up getting the second glass of exponential. The new location is great. A much brighter atmosphere than the previous location. They imported some of the concert posters, however I neglected to see if the famous jukebox made the trip.
Tap selection was stellar as to be expected. They even had Russian Rivers Damnation on tap, along with Pliny and many other great local brews. Green flash, port brewing etc. They also had a double fridge stocked to the brim with an even better specialty bottle selection.
Suffice to say I have found my new hangout, and itís right on the way home from work, and just a jump away from Alpine brewery. Iíll be heading back this weekend and give an update review on the food.

A true beach bar, which I am rarely in the mood for, and a bit small and loud. The service was off the night I went, but I would never hold it against a place to take care of regulars first. The menu made it a point to stock rarities from up and down the WC. I will truly miss this place. I havent been back to SD because of its demise.
This is part of the trio of San Diegoís smokin beer bars along with OíBrienís and Hamiltonís. This is a dive bar with a little punk and blues jukebox, a dark atmosphere, and a predilection for customers who take beer seriously or wish to learn. Parking is also difficult, perhaps second to the Toronado in San Francisco in difficulty, but this is a must stop for all serious beer hunters. The tap selection is always appealing with big hoppy Calif. beers, wild beers (Moonlight, Oud Beersel) and strong brews (Alesmith, Ballast Point). The chalkboard lists the goods and they change often. The bottle list is limited in number but includes some of the best imports and cutting edge local brews (Eisenbahn, Girardin, Cantillon, Buffalo stout). However, if you happen to order a Bud-Miller-Coors from this one waiter named Chris, be prepared for an announcement to all in the bar that an industrial beer has been ordered. Then Chris will don a face mask, potential lab coat, gloves and tongs. Holding it far from his body heíll deliver the swill. Equally entertaining is when big Nate (a cook) downs a pint of Guinness in about two seconds. Most food is made from scratch, and is darn tasty, esp. the Jambalaya, grilled sandwiches and corn-jalapena hush puppies. I would love to have this as my neighborhood bar. Look forward to their new location in Alpine.

to me as a visitor this place borders on perfect. beach casual, something on the grill, with amazing beers. i have always encountered staff who know beer and can talk about it, and i have enjoyed the food. we like to stay about a half mile north at one of the beachfront hotels and walk down here in the evening after sunset over the water
