This is the superior Local, crushes Sydney. Comfortable setting from the decor to the chairs and service, I felt at home right away. 20 beers on tap, a lot similar to what I had in Sydney a few days prior but a few more Victorias. Loved this place, best place in Australia.

We were there relatively early on a tuesday for lunch. Food was good - middling. Tap selection was great, but was informed by staff that a number of them hadnít been kegged yet, which was disappointing. Staff seemed knowledgeable but were a tad uninterested at times.

We came here first time on 19.2.2015. Itís a really good beer bar. They have two bars - on the ground and on the first floor and a small place outside. Very nicely decorated, wooden interior
with posters and beer bottles. Tap selection is quite awesome: 20 beers mainly from Australiaís best craft breweries, only two international ones: Budvar, De Proefbrouweri. Thatís what you are looking for when you are on beer journey in Australia. Also good bottle assortment, around 20: Mikkeller, Gueuzerie Tilquin, just to mention the highlights. Could only have 2 beers this day, but we will come back for sure!
We came back some days later after watching a World Cup 2015 cricket game at the Melbourne cricket stadium and spent several hours here. The food was very delicious (pie, sandwich, fries) and the beers great as expected - highlights were the Chocolate Stout from Holgate brewhouse on hand pump! and the FigJam IPA from Burleigh Brewing Co (the most intense beer I had during this trip). Can just confirm again this is the best beer place we visited during our 2015 Australia trip.

Incredible beer selection with some really interesting choices. A lot more modest on the food front. Real homey Irish pub vibe. Tad bit on the pricy side.

Loved everything about this place, except the staff. Please note this place definitely sets the pace on tap list quality in Melbourne.

Visited once, on July 26, 2013, with a mate of mine.
Took the tram from Federation Square down to Luna Park or so, started walking down Carlisle Street. I had got it in my head that it was located at 185, so we stayed on the right hand side, couldnít find it, realized it was 184, had to cross the road and walk back a few blocks... So, if you also come from the bay and are walking east, it will be on your left hand side. Sign is not that obvious to notice either. Much closer tram stops too, one right on the corner, but didnít note down the name for it.
Looks and feels very much like the Local Taphouse in Sydney, which for me is a very good thing! Offer 5x90ml tasting paddles for $15, their crackers that come with it are not as tasty as the ones in Sydney, still you get it which is rare at other places!
No WiFi, since they had changed password and teh staff didnít know it to give out.
Two floors indoors seating, also a beer garden at the top floor. Two bars, one on each floor, with the same draught selection, but two handpumps (this night at least) downstairs only.
A bit off from the CBD, certainly not walking distance, but well worth the trip down to St. Kilda!
Nice fast service.
Didnít eat, part from a bowl of hot chips that me and my mate shared, will not score the food rating for that though.
Had a tasting paddle and a glass each of the two imperial stouts on hand pumps.
Big bottled selection, though I focused on the taps.

Superb. Lucked out on the tail end of a New Zealand tap takeover. Most of the other 20+ taps were Aussie. Excellent tap selection. Indoor/outdoor seating with good atmosphere and lots of ppl even on Sunday. Didn't eat but food smelled good. A Melbourne must for beer.

Great bar. But real problems with the nazi style security and the manager when he eventually came out with a real attitude, when we just asking him a simple question.
Totally ruined a great night out where we loved the beers and everything else about the bar.
I would not go back to this bar for that reason which is sad as the beer selection was great.
