A wonderful tap selection with some rotating beers. Nice food menu. I liked the seating area outside that was covered. A deep bottled beer selection with each cooler individually temperature controlled.

Would have to be the best beer bar in New Zealand. The ínewí Malthouse is a good mix of minimalist at the front and loungey at the back. And the selection - impressive in the fridge, and ridiculously good on the taps. If it coudl relocate to Auckland, it would be even better...

My favourite beer bar in Wellington, if not NZ! Nice atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable staff (Scott is particularly good). Great range of NZ and European beers and have seen some Aussie craft beers on tap recently too. Alsways guest beers on- think they now have 29 taps... Heaven!

Awesome staff, very knowledgeable about the beers. Cool lounge, largest selection of beer Iíve seen in NZ. Yummy chips too! But its all about the beer and with around 20 tap beers and countless bottled this is the place for the Wellingtonian beer enthusiast. Nice during the afternoon before 4 when it gets a bit busy.

I may be slightly bias as I work just above the Malt House, but this does make for a pleasurable Friday liquid lunch. Everyone in the office was jumping for joy when they moved from Willis Street to Courtenay Place in late 2007. We were more devastated when they stopped the bar food. The chiefs Fish and Chips (very deserving of the capital letters) was to die for. The range of beers is large even though the move has half the bar size. Like donfardz64 said, you need to get in early but people are polite enough to make room at the bar when you want a beer. My favorite place when I want a quality beer.

I really miss this place being 2min walk from work but boy has it stepped up a mark since it moved. The jury was out for the for the first few months but it is back in now and these guys are guilty of making me want to spend way too much money (and abandon my family!). The venue is smaller and more suited to the late night crowd, as opposed to the old afternoon balcony crowd at Willis Street, but the staff are amongst the best in town (if not THE BEST) and the beer selection - and constant rotation - is outstanding. Fun loos too!

This was the first serious sit-down leg of my Wellington trip where I arranged to meet my friend Brian Eerwriter. The bar is quite a stylish little joint. I was expecting wooden panelling and British pub-like decor but got a fair modern urban trendy type place. The tap selection is extensive, the bottle selection is nothing short of impressive. I didnít have any food, but I am led to believe it is rather good as well. Comfortable surroundings and (crucially for this prematurely old man) the ambient noise is better than tolerable. Swift, friendly and knowledgable service adds to the overall impression that this place is a must-visit and also that Iím sorry I could only go there once on this trip. A definite must return.

Popular, yet relaxed bar on busy Courtenay Place. Excellent beer range on draught, including 1-2 cask ales, with many local & imported bottled beers.
A little disappointing to see Monteiths, which have their own chain of pubs, but a minor quibble.
Staff are helpful & know their beers and friendly punters make for a pleasant atmosphere.
Pizza & fries are available if youíre hungry and the loos are clean.
Definitely worth more than one visit.

The original, and still one of the top beer bars in Wellington. Selection (both tap and bottled) is second to none. Ambiance and service are great but the food selection leaves one in no doubt that this is a liquid bread establishment - go somewhere (anywhere) else for the solid variety.
