This is my top drinking spot! It has almost everything imaginable. Great service and awsome ambiance. Not a bar to go eat of couse but that should be done prior to getting here. My top beers here are: Bosteels Triple Karmelit, Delirium, Goose Island Piere Jaques, and Three Floyds Alpha King. A must for beer lovers. Go on a Sunday or one of the international nights (tues) for free buffet table if you really want to eat and drink. Reminds me of bars in Europe.

Hard to find. Two cabbies and a Chi-town policeman are of no help. Finally the oldest chain-smoking cabbie in Ill. takes us right there. Not very big, good thing we took up some real estate early on. Amazing selection. Nerd beers, Ungespundet, Baltic porters, lambics etc. Tough place to make decisions. G Lakes BO Stout on draft, how can I drink anything else? Great staff, very knowledgable and passionate. The only gripe I had about this place was the no-food thing. They do have food at international night, but man I really could have done with some apps. Oh well, another stout please.

Midwest and Chicago beerfans, this is your mecca.
2010: Always solid and dependable, after dozens of visits. Unparalleled in many ways. Please dont discount this place after a random visit on a Friday/Saturday night (the worst time to go, crowd wise) or after a random encounter with Woody, lol. The people here really go above and beyond to elevate the beer experience.
Quality and service here are unparallelled in Chicago. The friendly staff is very helpful in navigating the potentially mind-bending selection, and catering to your tastes. Samples are often given, along with advice and good conversation if its slow. They do their best to accommodate, even on weekends when a packed house is guaranteed. Free interweb, and 4 times a week (mon-tue, sat-sun afternoon), even free food.
The bar itself is long, and the space is fairly narrow, but opens up toward the back. Nice topographic map fresco on the back walls, dotted with assorted tin signs, mirrors, and Belgian breweriana. The Map Room hosts many great events, international night on tuesdays being my regular favorite. This is the place I was finally able to taste Dark Lord, and dozens of other rarities I may never see again.
Yes, they do get crowded on weekends and certain weeknights, but the popularity is certainly deserved. Thereís a tendency to crank up the music after 8pm, so be prepared to kick out the jams in the evening. Smoke-free as of 2008.
You cant ask for a better bar...

A no-brainer if youíre in Chicago. On top of their game everytime, go during the week for the best service and time. Amazing taps, amazing bottles, amazing. Only thing I didnít like was the number of people drinking crappy beer, overheard some guy drinking High Life say, "yeah, it took me a long time to decide what to get." At least she was drinking Saison DuPont. Like I said, go during the week, better ambience, less smoke. Also go when itís nice out, as they open up the big window in front.

Best beer bar in Chicagoland. Hands down. No food, but always great beer selections on tap and in bottle.

Fantastic selection, great service, cool ambiance and friendly people. This is a short review, but there’s not much else to say. An absolutely essential stop in Chicago.
