Friendly neighborhood setting. Allows outside food. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 13/20 Travlr (999) Washington, Washington DC | November 18, 2012 Nice selection. Crowd was mellow on a Sunday night, maybe a bit clique-ish. Still, a nice place for a quick look. | 68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 jhp40219 (11) Louisville, Kentucky | September 28, 2012 You’re either going to love this place or hate it. It is the very definition of a dive bar. The place smells funky and is far too small for the amount of people who frequent on weekends. And the bathrooms are...something to behold (and I don’t mean that in a good way). And this place is overrun by hipsters! But these are the pseudo-intellectual hipsters that dress redneck. No Bud Light swilling jocks anywhere to be found. Just grow a full beard and wear a scarf with an ugly sweater and trucker hat and you’ll fit right in. Great people watching spot! What keeps this place from being just another shithole bar is the craft beer selection. Constantly rotating and always an amazing selection of American and import crafts. And every year on Black Friday, they have the Blackout! This is all huge, heavy stouts and imperials, the likes of which no other bars in Louisville gets! Everyone I have met working the bar is friendly and knowledgeable of the beer they are selling. Great bar to hit during the week when it isn’t crowded. On weekends, expect to have to push your way through the place and good luck finding somewhere inside to sit. | 58 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20 NeoHippie2 (33) Louisville, Kentucky | August 29, 2012 Hipster haven. Parking sucks. Smells stale and funky inside and the outside features a perpetual cigarette smoke cloud. Seating is limited and awkward. Selection is pretty good and the prices aren’t awful. I won’t be in a hurry to come back though. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 tmongoose (55) Louisville, Kentucky | December 1, 2011 was there for black out friday. this is a small bar with not alot of tables and chairs and this place was packed and then some. pretty quick time at the bar getting a beer. hate the fact they served it in plastic cups. the selection deserves glass. sorry just my opinion. have been there before and gotten a glass for the beer. just happened to be that night. had a band that was very good and you could actually talk and hear each other even though the music was playing. will go back as i can nice little neighborhood bar. | 82 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 AguynamedTodd (89) Illinois | September 2, 2011 It’s a small place located in a neighborhood noted for small mom and pop bars. Beer selection is pretty good. Nice beers on tap. Prices dependent upon availability. I could go to one place and have a 10 oz beer for $8 and get a pint here for $6. I’d go back again when I’m out on the town. This place should have a higher rating but serves no food, which affects the overall score. | 82 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 16/20 Jjbigtime (14) California | March 10, 2011 The place in Louisville. An authentic craft beer experience in a state with few and far between. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 Bourbon (12) Louisville, Kentucky | December 6, 2010 Bathrooms are terrible. Decent selection. Decent service. Little pricey. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 15/20 eRoc (2) | September 22, 2010 Cool spot to drop in on during a late night. | 84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 cranked (19) Kentucky | July 23, 2010 The Nachbar is probably one of the best hidden gems in Louisville. All of the staff are knowledgeable and friendly, except for one that seems cranky every now and then.
Ambiance couldn’t be better, feels sturdy and reminiscent of "home."
Nachbar sports one of the best selections in town for a place that isn’t a full of testosterone induced rage or birthday shots, birthday shots, birthday shots. Their drafts are generally all exceptional and ever rotating. Their bottle list is great yet only limited by space.
Most every time I’ve asked for a beer I’ve gotten proper glassware, which is important.
Nachbar has something for everyone. It’s a must go if you need a relaxing place during the day or night.
Though, a possible warning is that in between the hours of 11pm and 2am on Friday and Saturday it becomes crowded with men with ironic mustaches and tight pants. |
