74 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 15/20 fbm115 (13) New Jersey | January 5, 2011 Old bay is a good place in New Brunswick to grab a good beer and a bit to eat. The place is fairly classy but not over the top. They will always have good craft beer on tap. though nothing to go out of your way for. Only problem is that they are pricey. This is a bar that i gladly go to on any occasion. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 someviking (13) old bridge, New Jersey | December 27, 2010 place has a great selection of beers on tap always. when bands play it’s a pretty good time. 2 levels make for a decent amount of room for the amount of people that frequent the place. because it’s a college town it definately can get packed in and the cover charge is stupid but mostly worth it. service is pretty good considering how many people are standing at the bar on a weekend night. nice outside area to sit in during the summer as well. and has heaters during the colder months. | 86 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 TheVikingWL (8) , New Jersey | September 9, 2010 I love going to this place if I go to New Brunswick. Their beer selection is the best out of any bar I’ve been to in the area, and it changes constantly; They have great stuff on draft and bottled. The one time I ate there was during their Mardi Gras fest and I must say the food was not only authentic but very good as well. The bartenders always seem to know their stuff and work quickly to get your drinks. My only issue is the bar area downstairs is VERY tiny and it gets cramped easily. The saving grace here is the outdoor patio to get some air. Highly recommended. | 60 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 10/20 auerbrau (278) Peace Dale, Rhode Island | July 14, 2010 Two words: ice cold craft beer and heavy frosted mugs. Ugh. They have a decent selection of regional craft beers, but prices are a nip high and the beers aren’t served well. The food was mediocre-plus. I had Crawfish Etoufee where a few of the mud bugs were past their prime, which was unfortunate considering how good the base was. Meh. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 HoppyHippie (11) Somerville, New Jersey | September 21, 2009 good food, selection and service | 50 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 11/20 CUJO (19) Brooklyn, New York | June 24, 2009 Not a great place for beers at all. The bar is cheap, no question... you can great drink specials, house shots, etc... but beers? Not sure why this place is on here.... | 94 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 19/20 kevinthesipper (2) Matawan, New Jersey | November 16, 2006 my hang out for when i want to be close to RU but not remember the easton ave bars | 52 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 1/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 10/20 tsarman (23) Northern, New Jersey | July 22, 2004| Updated May 26, 2005 Overpriced and bad service. I?ve been there twice, and both times the waiter was very rude. The food is pretty good for the style, but the service is not worth it. Especially at prices that are at least 50% higher than they should be.
Beer is good tho. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 Grandpa (12) Verona, New York | July 1, 2004| Updated May 26, 2005 Nice place to stop for a beer. They don’t make their own but have a large selection of mini brews on tap. The bar is set off from the dining room so action in one area is oblivious to patrons in the other. The bartender knew his beers and allowed small samples as we talked about the merits and quality of his selection. A bar patron, who joined into our conversations was enjoying a tempting plate of groceries. looked good to me. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 Dogbrick (561) Columbus, Ohio | April 19, 2004| Updated May 26, 2005 This bar is located in a nice little college-type town. It is also near Old Man Rafferty’s and Harvest Moon so you could have quite a beer night out if you wanted. Parking is limited to very few street spots and a parking garage if you want to spend a couple bucks to save yourself the trouble of driving around looking for a place. On a side note, I missed Neilson Street and went up Albany/Raritan a few miles and ended up in some kind of barrio.
The bar is kind of secluded down a few stairs from the main dining area. It also provides easy access to the patio. The bar itself is very small, and there appear to be a few regulars who were having a good time. They have a decent selection of draught beers, including Magic Hat, Yard’s, DFH, Victory, Brooklyn & Heavyweight. Frankly the only beers in bottles worth mentioning are Sam Smith, DFH and Corsendonk.
The bartender was very friendly and seemed to be up on the beers they offered.
I didn’t try the food but it appeared to be a Louisiana/Cajun theme. |
