Great place. Very relaxed atmosphere. Great grilled cheese and fries as well as good (although limited) selection of beer. One of my new favorite places in houston. On the plus side. Do being very kid friendly; it is uber quiet

Small eclectic little place, kind of in the middle of nowhere really. Plus is that parking is a breeze. Pretty empty mid afternoon on Wedensday, but was picking up nicely by the time I left. Certainly not large; a 10 seat bar and a few tables inside, but there is outside seating both in front and in a pretty big beer garden out back, so that is pretty cool. Lots of erased slots on the board when I was there, but still a pretty interesting taplist. No flights, but they do half pints on the stuff that is served in pints in the first place. Staff was friendly and reasonable beer savvy. I would hang out here if it were in my neighborhood. Food was pretty good, prices were really reasonable for most things.

A small bar with a large outdoor space. In the middle of a residential area and serve yourself and casual vibe. Decent tap list, mostly Pacific North West beers. Chalk boards which are a bit of a pain to read and so small lots of initials to represent breweries which makes it hard to order. A decent bar, but a bit pricey.

Small interior, large back patio. Moderate number of well selected taps, and good food (the lamb burger is awesome).

Probably the best beer joint in the city for people who are serious about the leading edge of craft beer. These guys stock the best of the best available taps, and do not marginalize themselves by wasting tap room with the InBev suite of beers or similarly marginal brews (looking at you Flying Saucer & Gingerman) (so don’t ask for a Bud or Stella). Very laid back/casual atmosphere with limited inside seating and a few separate areas outside to sit at. Service can be slow as the bar area is not very big and this place can get very busy relative to its size. That said, the bar tenders/waitstaff make sure you get what you want, which is good. The only bad thing is that a majority of the beers are big beers (>6% ABV), and after a couple pints, you are pretty much done. They have recently added a few more (padawan) beers to their suite, so the lightweights can still enjoy themselves without getting bombed out. The food is solid with daily specials and changing menu; the burgers and ceviche I had there were spot on.

Selection is not huge, but it is extremely high quality. Last night I had a Dogfish Head Theobroma, St. Arnold Bishop’s Barrel #4, and Clown Shoes Blaecorn Unidragon. Did I mention that the food is out of this world? Best. Burger. Ever.

Great beer bar near my old ’hood where I grew up. Good seelction of mostly american crafts on 40-something taps, cool backyard. Cheap.

(Visited 02/2013): Petrol Station is located on Wakefield Drive in north Houston not too far off 610. There is a small parking lot plus street spots available.

The exterior immediately confirms where the place got its name, as it was clearly a gas station at some point. There is a small patio in front, and the front doors open immediately to a cozy bar. The bar runs along the rear and right wall, and there are a few high tables opposite. Lots of breweriana and humorous touches, like a "Christopher Walk-In" cooler, and beers on the chalkboard divided by "Youngling", "Padawan", and "Jedi". Large patio/beer garden in the back too.

Petrol Station has over 30 beers on tap with Texas breweries like St. Arnold, Deep Ellum and Real Ale in attendance. Other domestic craft brewers like Deschutes, Lagunitas and Sierra Nevada as well. I did not note any bottled beer.

Service at the bar and on the patio on a weekday evening was friendly and knowledgeable.

Dinner at Petrol Station for my colleagues and I was thoroughly enjoyed all around.

Overall this is a very enjoyable beer spot to hit in Houston, I would definitely put it near the top of the list for future visits.

Small for US standards, but large patio. Interesting croud, looks like many beer lovers around. Interesting list of taps available. Service is bit difficult to draw attention. Will go back.
