(Visited 02/2013): Petrol Station is located on Wakefield Drive in north Houston not too far off 610. There is a small parking lot plus street spots available.

The exterior immediately confirms where the place got its name, as it was clearly a gas station at some point. There is a small patio in front, and the front doors open immediately to a cozy bar. The bar runs along the rear and right wall, and there are a few high tables opposite. Lots of breweriana and humorous touches, like a "Christopher Walk-In" cooler, and beers on the chalkboard divided by "Youngling", "Padawan", and "Jedi". Large patio/beer garden in the back too.

Petrol Station has over 30 beers on tap with Texas breweries like St. Arnold, Deep Ellum and Real Ale in attendance. Other domestic craft brewers like Deschutes, Lagunitas and Sierra Nevada as well. I did not note any bottled beer.

Service at the bar and on the patio on a weekday evening was friendly and knowledgeable.

Dinner at Petrol Station for my colleagues and I was thoroughly enjoyed all around.

Overall this is a very enjoyable beer spot to hit in Houston, I would definitely put it near the top of the list for future visits.

Nice little pub tucked away in the Oak something or another neighborhood. Tap selection is small but the selection is great. If you don’t like the current offerings, wait a week. According to the bartender on duty, the selection changes every seven days, usually on Saturday. Very knowledgable staff and very conversational. A bit bohemian in decor but it works for the locale. Definitely worth a visit if you’re nearby. Oh, and once you get into the neighborhood, don’t worry. It’s there, tucked amongst the houses and such. Not a commercial area, in other words.

One of my favorite places! The place itself is small, but great out door seating. Bartenders can be a bit rude but overall are nice and helpful. The burgers are the best in Houston in my opinion! Prices a very fair and selection is large and rotates frequently. Half pint available. I love this place!

This place could get two different kinds of ratings: an awesome place early in the day when no ones around but jesus, turns unbearable at night, takes 20-30 mins to order a beer and you have to shout at the top of your lungs at the same time .. . Great burger, horrible horrible fries. One bathroom for the entire place, took 30 mins just to pee. place has grow to big for its boots.. i will only go again if in the area and if they expand the bathrooms, servers, and taps.. but the 10 taps they do have were quality, mostly big beers- no sessions... they do the occasion cask and the parkings a joke, maybe 7 spots then all down the streets. ..

True neighborhood bar. Nice eclectic selection of mainly domestic micros that was well thought out. I’ve had the reuben twice-excellent!! 3 outside seating areas-great to beat the sun in the summer. And to top it all-a classic Star Trek pinball machine. Very cool. Wish this was closer to my neighborhood.

Small for US standards, but large patio. Interesting croud, looks like many beer lovers around. Interesting list of taps available. Service is bit difficult to draw attention. Will go back.

Updated rating: Decided to give Petrol Station another try and was once again disappointed. There were 6 or 7 Texas beers on tap, but only one was from Houston. Where is the love for the local guys?

Stopped by during a recent trip to Houston. While the tap selection was very good, I was disappointed by the lack of Texas beers. Of the 25 or so beers on tap during my visit, only three were from Texas (one from 512 and two from Karbach). I was hoping to see some Ranger Creek, No Label, Live Oak or Independence, Austin Beer Works. From the availability list on RateBeer it looks like other Texas beers have been present in the past, so maybe this was a one time thing. But I was just hoping to see the bar focusing on Texas taps, not national taps that I can get in Dallas. Still, a very nice place with helpful service, my only gripe is the lack of Texas taps. I also liked that they sold half pints of all of their beers.

Cool little place. Glad I finally got over to check it out. Cool, knowledgeable staff, good selection and prices. Bonus points for not wasting any taps on macros, even the imported ones.

A unique and out of the way beer bar. When the GPS told me I was coming up on it I was worried that there were 2 Wakefield Drives because the place is literally in a residential area. I guess Texas’ zoning laws are different than where I’m from. Anyhow I went there at 9 (they close at 10) and the bartender saw us sit down and helped other people and wiped down the counter before waiting on us (there were only 4 other people there). After the first beer another bartender came out and he saw that our beers were empty. He just talked to some of the staff and kept looking over at us. I finally had to wave him over so I could have one more and get out before they close. Selection was awesome. Maybe I caught the bartenders on a bad day

Great beer bar near my old ’hood where I grew up. Good seelction of mostly american crafts on 40-something taps, cool backyard. Cheap.
