I was very happy to find this place, for 2 reasons: they have a good, frequently changing selection of craft brews, and they sell them for reasonable prices. PB keeps it simple by selling all their beers for 5 bucks a pop, the only difference being the size of the glass, which is smaller for strong or rare brews. Growlers are likewise priced simply and reasonably at either $16 or $19. No more of this business of paying $7.75 for a 8.25 ounce pour of an unusual brew and the like - at The Pony Bar, you see something that looks good, you order it, it is 5 dollars. But watch out if you want to do a growler fill - on a recent visit almost half of what they had on the board was only available by the glass. It is a fairly small and simply set up place, Lighting is low key, and there are a few tables. It draws a pretty good-sized crowd who sometimes get pretty obnoxious. The place is a little small, and it does get crowded - I am sure I am not alone in hoping that this apparently successful business will move to a bigger space before long. The servers were busy but helpful, and still took the time to talk to me. A good place that could be even better.

I used to be a bigger fan of this place until it became apparent that at least one of the two female bartenders (who look pretty similar) is not the friendliest. The place does get crowded around happy hour, but itís not a coincidence when 5 or 6 different people on different occasions have broached the topic of the bartender being a bitch. I completely agree. I once tried to get my ratings sheet (which they used to keep behind the bar) about 3 different times ... she kept snapping back that sheíd get it when she had time. Literally about 40 minutes went by before I finally asked the dude who was sharing the shift with her - he had it in about 15 seconds for me. I was also with jredmond when he had his own little run-in and without getting into details, letís say it was very uncalled for and not his fault in the least. All that aside, they have a menu up on the wall that is the "OCD personís dream" - neatly written in big block letters in neon chalk with the ABV next to the name. 20 taps and 2 casks is solid, but for some reason I seem to find myself looking at the same beers on the menu visit after visit. I never see anything outrageous here, but I almost always find something I like. Every beer being $5 is probably their coolest thing. Higher-alcohol beers come in a 7-oz glass. Food is solid but I find the portions to be small. Oh, one last thing - the music is consistently too loud. Not to end the review on a bad note, but I hate having to exert myself every time I want to say any little thing to the person Iím standing right in front of.

Really enjoyed spending a few hours on my first visit to this place. Pleasant sunlit woody space, and very comfortable, relaxed feel from the staff, patrons, etc. Selection was great, service outstanding, and the value was even pretty damn good for monster island. Casks are a plus too.

Hit this place Friday night. Very much a neighborhood type bar. I was able to get a seat at the bar pretty quickly even though it was busy. The service was outstanding. I never had to wait for a beer, the bartender was friendly, and I even got a couple of buybacks which is almost unheard of in this day and age. What also kicks ass is that everything is $5.00 and is either a pint or an 8 oz pour. The tap list itself had some interesting beers and a few diamonds in the rough. Well worth a visit.

A wonderful beer bar in Midtown West that offers ambiance, efficiency and an explemary listing of craft taps. And that a pint is only $5.00 is the feather in the cap. The one caveat: Pony Bar is small and can get very tight (along with the patrons, no doubt.) Get here early - they open at 3pm on weekdays and sit back.

I really enjoyed this place. We went twice during our week long visit to NYC. Both times were busy, but we found a seat within a few minutes of being there. We didnít try the food, but it looked good. Good draft selection with frequent turnover. Enjoyable atmosphere and great service. They are somewhat unique in that all beers are $5 with 2 different glass sizes for regular or high ABV/rare beers. Iíll definitely stop again next time Iím in town.

Great small All-American craft bar on 45th and tenth ave. Nice atmosphere - dim lit, dark wood, vague americana vibe. Friendly and dilligent staff, always an interesting draft list which includes rarities and high quality brews frequently thrown into rotation (think Hill farmstead, local brewery seasonal and one offs, the shed, maine beer co, cigar city, etc) All drafts are $5 which makes things clean and easy. The pulled pork sandwich and pickles are boss daddy.

Thought I would check this place based on the reviews and itís location close to times square. The atmosphere is pretty good and there is a fair amount of seating. The beer selection was decent and they were able to offer suggestions. The prices were pretty good for a bar near times square. The food was pretty good as well. If youíre looking for somewhere to go around mid-town this is definitely worth checking out.
