(Visited 07/2014 during Ohio Brew Week): "The Pub" is an unfortunately not very well-named dive bar in Athens on Court Street. Metered and garage parking is available in the surrounding blocks.
The interior is dark with the bar running along the left side, with classic red vinyl bar chairs. Wood paneled walls and sporadic lighting. There is a sign above the bar reading "Free Beer Tomorrow" if that tells you anything.
The bar only has a few taps, and were featuring an Ohio brewery for the event, but otherwise no standouts.
Service on a slow weekday afternoon at the bar was alright. The staff was friendly and attentive.
I did not have any food on this visit.
All in all I donít foresee going to any effort to visit this place outside of OBW, and even then only if they have something interesting on tap.

Accidentally wandered in here when I was aiming for the J Bar right next door. I found street parking to be easy but this was after 10 on a Sunday night and most of the town was deserted. Dive bar, maybe a tad bit more upscale than the J Bar. They serve food but the kitchen had closed by the time I got there. Several taps all with local stuff. Bartender was friendly despite it being very busy.

Stopped in here early on a Saturday during Ohio Brew Week. They were the only place open as early as I was out looking for places to be open. Street parking, but I walked from up the road at Jackie-Oís. They had 5 craft beers on tap and then Bud Light and Guinness, unfortunately. The bartender was knowledgeable of what they were serving and recommended a favorite. They were running a deal where you could get 3 samples for $5, which I did, but I wanted to try a fourth to get the tick and they obliged without any sort of fight. As I was leaving, the bartender told me about what they were going to have throughout the week and was very excited about the beer. Maybe this is an OBW time only visit, but I enjoyed myself and if this is truly what the bar is like, I would come back.

Court street bar, one of more than 20 bars here in the tiny town of Athens. Pub advertises the best burger, which is fine, its a tasty burger and their beer cheese soup is really the main attraction, I used to always scout the sign out front for it. Tap selections are marginal, unless its ohio beer week or immediately after.. this bar was usually filled with douchy guys but that only applies after 6 or 7pm.

I have been here many times. The burger is good, but the best for me is the beer cheese soup in the winter. The beer selection is average for a small bar, but they were part of OBW before it became that popular. They usually have something interesting on tap for OBW.

This place has the best (and I mean you canít find one better for miles and miles) burger around. The owner and manager, Tom, is super friendly. Also, the self-proclaimed "Jack of all Trades" Ed is very fun and genial as well. The prices are fair, and the selection is what you would expect of a smaller, locally owned bar. Get there during the day, have a beer, have a burger, and enjoy the vibe. You wonít regret it.
