10 pumps/14 taps. Green granite bar. Brick and wood decor. Definitely something of a local. Itís so close to the Premier Inn. Itís Casque Marque. It participates in festivals. Itís a frickin wetherspoons. Go. Get good beer. Probably even get ticks. Friendly folks - customers and staff. Itís even historic with really kinky wood beams here and there. Excellent. Saw them take a pump off and put on a "cleaning line" sign. Yes! Have now had the food. Typical breakfast one day and eggs benedict the next. Good.

Just outside the city walls at the western Micklegate entrance to York, this Wetherspoon sits on the corner of a traffic light road junction in an attractive big building. The pub is traditional in style with low ceilings, wooden furniture, fixtures and fittings around a central to the building service area. Around this there are plenty of defined areas to sit in although itís open plan in design with large windows that naturally light the tables by the windows giving it a different atmosphere to those away from the sides that face the road. The usual decent selection of rotating ale are available here although one of my in-laws first experience of Wetherspoon Fish & Chips from here did not go down too well. The outdoor area is enclosed at the rear side of the building.

Recognizably a Wetherspoons, but clearly a place for the locals, with lots of people at all times. Small outdoor area at the back, kind of worn but still nice indoor bar. Cool corner room with lots of windows. Quick, helpful service. No music (thank you). Food is the usual Wetherspoons, but was good, and very cheap. Good choice of cask ales. Overall well worth a visit.

Not to be confused with the Nicholsonís pub of the same name in Stonegate, this is a Wetherspoonís pub just outside the city walls by Mickelgate Bar. Itís been a pub for at least 200 years and retains a pleasant, quiet, comfortable feel Ė far less corporate than many Wetherspoon places. There are ten hand pumps with a very good choice of local beer kept in good condition.

Visited in january 2013 on our great York Pubcrawl. This Wetherspoon is one of the better / nicer ones I have visited. Not to big, very cosy atmosphere, we were sitting next to the fireplace :-). Had a good range of beers, served in good condition. Clean and tidy, friendly staff..
