Really cool place. Kind of hidden and seems to be the lower level of some of the stores along the street. Great beer selection and offers some more beers from around the area. Food was excellent and the service was great. Really nice drinking vibe going on.

Great place with a good selection of brews. Very mixed crowd and relaxed atmosphere make this a great hangout on Silver Spring.

Well what they say is true. At first when you find the place you will see the stairs. There is no real sign to the place right now but there is a piece of notebook paper stuck on the wall with Quarry House hand written on it. Had it not been for what others had wrote I would have never entered. I am glad I did.
It is a dive at first and I almost left because I did not see the normal beer bottles on the wall, but then I said well I am here let me at least see the beer menu. Wow, what can I say when the first three pages were Belgiumís. There where over 130 beers listed with only 6 Macros.
The beers change at times and the staff seemed to know their beers well even through they are young.
The place itself is nothing special but the fast food is good and the beer selection out of this world. 2012 The beer selection has dropped off a bit but still on the mark.

I was a little bit disappointed in this place as i had heard a lot of hype from SS area people. The bar was in a basement (cave) and was very dark with no air conditioning. We happened to stop in on one if the hottest days of the year so it was rather unpleasant. The waitress seemed to just want to get our orders and did not give any suggestions when a friend asked what beer he should try, she acted rather annoyed. Good selection of Belgian beers and i would give it a 14 selection for these but everything else was pretty standard for the metro area. I wouldnít ever make this a destination again but would stop by if i was in the area.

A definitive dive bar in downtown Silver Spring: the address that pops in your Google maps is an Indian restaurant. You have you go around the corner and go down a random stairwell into the basement of the Indian restaurant and you will magically appear inside "QHT". Itís a fun place for after work drinks but happy hour here is pretty weak sauce...something like $1 off beer. Uhh. Tap list to any giant beer geek is going to be disappointing. Mostly things like DFH 60 min on tap along with some less than exciting macros. Bottle list for beer is very extensive, but there is usually only 1-2 things that pique my interest. Pretty sure this place does not really have a good distributor connection since their tap rotation is poor and tap selection is poor. Bottle list is interesting, but pretty much all quantity and little quality. Itís definitely the closest thing Silver Spring has to a craft beer bar, but I would not go here expecting much. If friends are going here, I usually tag along and get rye bourbon. Food is pretty good- normal pub grub with a few interesting things you can order but nothing memorable. Prices are much better than DC proper though.

I just went to this place for their Rockabilly night. Great atmosphere with plenty of tables and bar space. The live bands were very good. The beer selection was decent from a bar, but it is all in bottles. Some of the bottles were very reasonably priced, others not so much, so be careful. The place was a little hard to find, because itís in the basement of an Indian restaurant, with nothing but a small "QH" marked above a dark stairwell outside. Iíll probably be back again for another Rockabilly night, it was awesome.

Classic dive bar - a bit scruffy, but very friendly staff who made good beer recommendations. 6 taps, 240 bottles, solid selection of local stuff. 10 macros, 7 ciders, most of which were domestic (who knew that Montana made cider?). Large list of single malt whiskies, including more than a few cask strength stuff and a couple that are no longer produced. Solid food, large range of typical bar stuff. So whatís not to like?

I love this bar. In a city that is full of chains and bars that are little too trendy this bar is a refreshing exception from the norm.
The decent down the steps the first time makes the patron question if it is a good idea to continue, but once you sit down grab a cold one and some fried pickles you are feeling great.
I love the vibe, the service, the beer list, the food, the patrons and the neighborhood.
Check it out.

The Quarry House was taken over in (I believe) late í06 or early í07, and itís a completely different animal from the initial reviews. The bottled beer list has grown huge (in a good way - over 125 by my latest count), organized by country, and features a very strong selection of Belgian bottles, among other North American micros. They typically have 6 or 7 on tap almost always Guinness, a couple of more typical mega-micros, and always at least one real temptation and/or local (Ommegang or Tupperís Hop Pocket, e.g.). Monday night is half-price burger night, and their black-and-blue burger (blackened seasoning with blue cheese) is a killer deal at about $3.50 for the burger, which comes with the best tater tots to be found in DC. The ambience is definitely dive-ish itís literally in the basement, and feels like it, but has much more of a traditional British pub vibe to it as a result. Itís not been buffed out the way so many Silver Spring establishments have been since the renovation. Still has its old-school charm, from the live music to the juke box, while serving up the best bar beer list in lower MoCo, if not much of the area.

Interesting place. The first reaction to this place could either be that it is a nice cozy location, like a real tavern, or it could be a reaction that the place is just a little "run down". I move toward the former.
Service was not too bad, and the staff was friendly.
Suprisingly they have a pretty good selection for what youíd expect. Didnít have time to catch a bite to eat, but probably would have if not for the movie I had to catch.
