A fun place to hang out and enjoy quality beers. I visited mid week over a few days so it wasnít crazily busy and congested which I preferred. Enjoyed meeting up with a few of the local crew, and had some very nice beers courtesy of Tom. I could see myself spending a lot of time here. Beer haven in London.

The Rake is a tiny place which is itís main drawback. The outside space is generally packed and itís not easy to get served as have to fight way to the bar. Attended for the De Molen tap takeover and the beer range was disappointing with 2 keg and cask versions of the same beer available and a barrel aged version of something in reserve. Beer range is usually OK, itís pricey but thirds are available. It does have interesting beers on but itís not a place I would describe as "go to".

The Rake is ... well the Rake ! Itís not big, itís not the place to go for a cosy sit down and relaxing evening, you simply hit it running, put a couple of quality beers down you in 45 minutes and move on. Always a bustling busy atmosphere of an evening - I like ! Good selection and a bit pricey in places, but thereís always something to hold my interest on tap or in the fridge. Itís in a bustling some may say ítrendyí area of London, so no point coming here and harping on about your local beer prices - get over it! Service has always been decent when Iíve visited, despite the cramped bar area. Can be combined with Brew Wharf and the Market Porter as a mini crawl, all 3 minutes apart.

One of the original craft beer bars of London. Although, in the last two years The Rake has been surpassed by no less than five other bars, in my opinion, in terms of beer variety, beer quality and certainly atmosphere. The bar itself is modest and quite small, with a slightly larger patio adjacent. Most of the people, however, stand around in a nearby parking lot drinking their beers. The tap selection was decent on my first visit, with several British bitters, American brewer Stone, and some other oddities. There seemed to be an extensive bottle selection in the fridges behind the bar but I stuck to the draught stuff. The main reason I went to the bar was for a BrewDog tasting with brewer James Watt, which was superb. We tried three rare beers, including the AB:03, the Devine Rebel Mortlach Reserve 2008, and the End of History. The tap line-up seems to change quickly - I saw two changes just while I was there on a Tuesday evening - so I look forward to returning to try new beers. Great place.

Iíve been here on a number of occasions but to be fair since the likes of Cask & Kitchen, Craft, Brewdog, Euston Tap and others opened Iíve been a less frequent visitor, London has just become a lot, lot better in the past 3-4 years and when this place opened it was a leader now it is part of the chasing pack. However I have to say I really enjoyed the visit yesterday (Saturday October 20th 2012 on the Thames Tipple) the cask and keg selection are limited because this is such a small place but Oakham Scarlet Macaw is a cracking beer so we were happy. I followed this up with a bottle of Bethnal Pale, pretty good I must say. The place on an early Saturday was very busy, however they managed to shoehorn three staff behind the bar so no one was waiting for too long. Ok so Craft and others lead the way but if you are in Borough The Rake is still punching above itís weight and offering a great beery experience and long may it continue.

Small pub / bar close to Borough Market, always busy whenever we visit. The beer choice is exceptional for such a small place but it is often quite tricky to get served, although not yesterday. The bar man was particularly cheery and helpful on this occasion, which has not always been the case. The outside seating area is very relaxing for its location near the market. The Gents loo is the smelliest we have come across in quite a while.

Small, very cool beer-centric bar. Nothing bad to say about the place--great selection, knowledgeable staff, casual.

Modern beer joint in near the Borough Market in Southwark. Has a good mix of foreign brews, interesting specials and some special English beer as well. Small place, but friendly vibe and I think the beer selection exceeded my expectations - it wasnít just the usual Americans and Belgians, but a really fun list that could bring out repeated visits.

A very small pub located in borough market. Thereís something like 3 cask options with an additional 7 beers on keg. The pubís cramped and not especially inviting. Thereís probably place for 8 people to sit inside. Iíve come to this place on and off for something like 5 years, and can only recall scoring a seat once. Thereís a small garden at the front entrance of the pub. The beerí s in good condition, and while the selectionís decent, itís not world class. Basically, this place used to be the place to go in 2008, but since then a number of places have opened that are more comfortable, with more intriguing options on tap and in bottle. Iíd recommend a visit if youíre in the area or on your way to visit the Kernel. But The Rake isnít really a destination pub, in my opinion.
