Visited on Saturday 15th January 2011 during crawl with two friends around London Bridge/Borough. Small, pub offering mainly standing space within, and seating outside in a covered garden. Friendly knowledgeable staff and an exceptional beer range. Beers very well-kept, and include US and European varieties on tap alongside traditional real ales. The refridgerated range is impressive. Can get crowded, and the garden can get draughty but these are minor grumbles. Go, you’ll enjoy it. Beware, not cheap!

I found this place on several guides that reviewed it back as a "pub" but I think has nothing of the pub apart from the beers. It ’s just a place where they sell beer. A pub has a "soul", has a service, has music and a host of amenities that allow customers to enjoy beer in a state of relaxation. The Rake has nothing of this, is "hot" like a dentist’s waiting room. Speaking of beer The Rake is at the top as a supply and variety. If there is a beer you find it there. If you go looking for quality beer in is one of the most ever supplied with unavailable Real Ales.

A nice joint, with some very good and rare beers along with some crap stuff such as Timmermans on tap.

This is pretty much the only place I even would consider paying six quid (or more) a pint for draught beer - and here I will even do it willingly! As well as several (usually British) cask ales on hand-pump, there are kegged US and other rare-in-London microbrews on tap, plus a good selection of bottles. Service is friendly but can be a bit slow.

One of the original craft beer bars of London. Although, in the last two years The Rake has been surpassed by no less than five other bars, in my opinion, in terms of beer variety, beer quality and certainly atmosphere. The bar itself is modest and quite small, with a slightly larger patio adjacent. Most of the people, however, stand around in a nearby parking lot drinking their beers. The tap selection was decent on my first visit, with several British bitters, American brewer Stone, and some other oddities. There seemed to be an extensive bottle selection in the fridges behind the bar but I stuck to the draught stuff. The main reason I went to the bar was for a BrewDog tasting with brewer James Watt, which was superb. We tried three rare beers, including the AB:03, the Devine Rebel Mortlach Reserve 2008, and the End of History. The tap line-up seems to change quickly - I saw two changes just while I was there on a Tuesday evening - so I look forward to returning to try new beers. Great place.

Small, very cool beer-centric bar. Nothing bad to say about the place--great selection, knowledgeable staff, casual.

Modern beer joint in near the Borough Market in Southwark. Has a good mix of foreign brews, interesting specials and some special English beer as well. Small place, but friendly vibe and I think the beer selection exceeded my expectations - it wasn’t just the usual Americans and Belgians, but a really fun list that could bring out repeated visits.

This place was packed early evening on a Friday night. The bartenders seemed friendly and knowledgeable. There is a sign above the bar that says "No Crap on Tap" and for the most part I believe it to be true. They didn’t have a huge amount of taps, and what they did have seemed to be carefully selected. They also had pretty nice bottle list as well. On the walls they had signatures of brewers who had visited there, and everyone seemed to be having a great time.

Good location, but a bit expensive and I think these two goes together. The patio is brilliant, at least at summer. Supricingly the pub has only few taps, but number of bottles is definetely a plus. If you are visiting London, and near by Tower Bridge, don’t go by without visiting the Rake.

More of a beer bar than pub but a very good one at that. Plenty of bottles with focus of Germany and US. About 8 taps inc Sierra Nevarda and Flying Dog. Fantastic beer garden. Recommended, particularly on a sunny day.
