They regularly change their guestbeers. Visited the pub once more during RBESG-06 and had a nice dish. A really nice place with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Two returns in the summer of -08 confirmed my impression. | 80 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 rickgordon (38) Göteborg, Sweden | August 27, 2005 Cosy and friendly pub/restaurant with a dedicated and very knowledgable staff. Nice Belgian geared pub with a great beer selection. Was a bit smoky, but otherwise conducive to drinking, relaxing, and enjoying quality beers. Great Belgian selection and several fine examples of beers from Sweden, Czech Republic, and the UK. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 bark (4) Linköping, Sweden | December 12, 2004| Updated October 8, 2007 The Rover is a cosy pub with an enthusiastic staff and by far the best beer assortment of fine beers in Gothenburg.
The pub is divided into three rooms, one for the bar and two for the seated guests. There is approximately room for 40 to 50 persons.
The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, no loud “background” music, no troubadours and no gambling machines. I even found the regulars easy to get into conversation with. During my visit I made some notes of the beers I drank and asked lots of questions regarding the brews, and I was treated with the best respect and the staff showed great knowledge of their beers.
Oh yes, the beers. Normally, they offer up to two cask-conditioned ales, but at the time of my visit the equipment was being rebuilt (too bad!). For the kegs, there are some 30 pumps: Some of them are on rotating stock. The bottle assortment is great and features some 80 Belgian beers, but there are also lots of brews from Sweden, Britain and all over the world. Don’t miss out the in-house matured beers! You could also choose from some of their 50 whiskies, some of them are guest appearances.
I haven’t tried the food yet, but they seem to like blending beer in the dishes. Nice. They also offer vegetarian dishes. | 88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 rlgk (177) Skövde, Sweden | February 24, 2004 A very nice pub, rather small which gives it intimacy. Visitors often are rather quiet and know about beers. Maybe this place is at its best during the weeks, when you really can enjoy your beer in a relaxing environment. The staff is very competent. Has a good variety on the taps, and a belgian profile on the bottles. Beer is an ingredience in the food as well.
A place I very much can recommend when you visit Göteborg. |
