Stopped here for a late afternoon beer. Pretty much a dive bar that is pretty dingy. Bartender didnít really give a crap about anything and gave us some really short pours. Selection is decent but really just a lot of mediocre beers. Prices were really good on some beers especially for pitchers. Overall a place I would never go back to. I ordered a Big Foot pint for $5 which I thought was a hell of a deal. I was probably the first person in a while to order it and can only imagine how long it was sitting in those beer lines in the Hawaiian heat. Needless to say, it tasted like crap.

OK, OK, so no one denies this bar can get trashy at times. It is a young college seen from UH and nearby colleges, and the general ambiance is catered towards this. However, just before you are ready to swear off Varsity for "true" beer drinkers, their selection comes as a surprise. Sure, you arenít gonna find any Stone, Dogfish, or Green Flash on tap, but having a fresh pint of Black Butte Porter, or Maui Brewing IPA is not a bad consolation. For me though, the dirty feel of this place (think: Haole frat party) just kills it.

Lots of great beer! The food is ok, good enough. The beer is the real focus. College scene. This place has a great selection of Micros.

In talking with one of the part owners, this is Magooís Pizza re-vamped and re-opened. It is an open air bar with approximately 40 beers on tap. I did not ask if they had any bottled beer because I was just happy to have a decent selection of taps to look at. Because it is the islands, more light style beers are featured, but they did have a few stouts and porters to choose from as well. Varsity also has a brewer making a couple beers for them (a red, a pale, and a lager were available when i was visiting)
It is near UH, which means most of the people there are of college age so if you are looking for a restaurant style place...look elsewhere.
The best thing about this bar, besides the selection, is the price. Pitchers of house beer (the red was what we drank all night) were $6 from 4pm-10pm. Pints of all their beers ran right around $3. I think the most any of my group paid for a pint was $4, with some being as cheap as $2.50.
Naming a few of their selection off the top of my head: Kona Brewery, Redhook, Deschutes, Newcastle, Blue Moon, Rogue, and Anchor.
They have 2 dart boards and a shuffle board in the back to keep people entertained. Music is by pay per play jukebox so selection can vary.
Overall, it was my favorite bar to visit while in Honolulu/Wikikii. Good staff, good atmosphere, awesome beer, and great prices.
