Tucked into the same shopping center as the Raleigh Whole Foods, the Wine Merchant is a real gem. Make no mistake: it’s a wine joint first and foremost, and do not go in expecting the same selection as Sam’s or the Carrboro Bev Co, for example. But these guys have a few designated shelves of high quality stuff (Stillwater, Olde Hickory, Green Flash, Stone, Jolly Pumpkin, Dupont, Epic) with an emphasis on freshness and seasonals. What’s more, they have a really fine selection of taps and they do very reasonably priced growlers - and don’t sleep on the regular tastings that Ryan and co. put together! Truly top notch service to boot, with awesome guys who are always game to make a special order for you, have great conversation, or share a brew.
