Quaint, low-ceilinged tudor ale-house with a good few hundred years under its belt that is well regarded by Shrewsbury folk as serving the best-kept cask ale in town. Range tends to be rather safe, with Hobsons, Timothy Taylors and Three Tuns making daily appearances but when any of Salopianís finest take centre-stage on a weekend they usually disappear fast so be quick. A pint of Kashmir or Hoptwister in the Fishes really is liquid gold. Some from modern newcomers such as Hopcraft, Track and Arbor have been spotted and usually taste glorious. Some írealí cider and írealí lager on offer. Very decent pub grub served by their amiable, talkative chef. No music policy, encouraging the entire room to join in your discussion, which is no bad thing I guess.

Visited on 2nd May 2016. Avoided the groping and negotiated the cobbles of Fish St. Lovely old tutor pub, low wooden beams, stone floor. Focus on food as well as 6 cask ales on tap. 2 Salopian and a mix of local and regional brewers. Beer condition decent. Prices OK. Service OK. Nice pub. Not a great rating venue

We got here by using Grope Lane, named in honor of the prostitutes who used to line it. I am told that there was an additional word in the laneís name, but itís not used in polite company anymore. The pub itself is fairly large, timber framed in the Tudor style. Well kept casks included some interesting choices, especially the Three Tuns stout. Worth a look.

An old timber framed pub close to the church close in Shrewsbury, a lovely setting but unfortunately rather lack lustre. It is really un-atmospheric, itís like a hotel dining room, the tables are all laid for diners, which seems to be its main business. Quiet, you can hear the ticking clock, even when reasonably busy. We felt in the way as we were only drinking.

Well known as a íno smokingí pub years before the national ban came in: Iíve used this bar many, many times and highly recommend it if visiting Shrewsbury. Used by lunch-time diners as well as Real Ale fans. Beer quality has never been an issue, finding space and getting served can be: because it is small and so popular.

Lovely olde worlde pub in the centre of Shrewsbury opposite a fine old church. The beer selection was impressive with seven real ales plus ciders and perries available and the ones that I had both from Purple Moose were in tip top condition, the barman certainly knew his stuff and was pleasant enough but sadly lacked character and wouldnít really ever engage in conversation.
