Decided to stop in here for lunch before heading up to Hill Farmstead for the night. Atmosphere was very laid back, a few people at the bar watching TV and talking amongst themselves about all things beer. Quality seemed to be pretty high across the board. My beers were all served in the correct glasses and my burger was made with top notch ingredients. My bartender was awesome. We talked about beer and my impending trip to Hill Farmstead and he even gave me some stickers when I was getting ready to leave.
The selection was great. All kinds of local beers to go along with a few national offerings. Plenty of Hill Farmstead and Lawson’s on which is always welcome in my book. Since I went here for lunch I decided to go with the single burger, which I added bacon to. While my burger tasted great and was cooked to perfection I was a little dissapointed in its size. For $9 + $3! for bacon I was expecting to get my moneys worth. I can get a half pound bacon cheese burger that tastes just as good for $7 around here...Overall a really awesome beer bar that I will definitely return to when I am in the area.
Stopped in for lunch and a couple of beers while in VT for a weekend. Was fairly empty after open, attentive staff, great burger at a reasonable price and the other food looked yummy too. Had a few HF beers, a Lawson, a couple nice ciders and other local stuff. Definitely worth a stop if you are anywhere in the area.
Semi busy stop. Paid parking right outside on street. Its look is a bit dated. Typical pub in center of town. Service was pleasant enough. Noting outstanding. What makes this pub special is their beer line up. As mentioned before. Frequent offerings of HF etc.
We visited Three Penny Taproom multiple times on our visit to Montpelier. It feels like quality beer can be found in pretty much every café/restaurant/bar in town, but this is the main beer destination and a must-visit. We frequented during the day and in the evening on a Monday and even then they have a steady stream of drinkers. We sat at the bar area with a mix of locals and beer tourists. They have 24 taps of some of the best beer in the world – Hill Farmstead, Lawson’s, Grassroots, Allagash etc on offer. Couple that with a plentiful supply of Alchemist cans and you have a selection that is hard to beat. We were only too happy to sit here and sip back HF… Do yourself a favour and go visit.
Visited around dinnertime on a Friday night in Apr-2013. Extremely busy bar, but the waiter found us a table in the restaurant near the back (which eventually filled up). No music playing, lovely wooden tables and benches. Ate the Chicken Stew and Pastry, and the burger, and both were tasty. We tried a flight of three (excellent) brews, but it looks like they have about 24 beers on tap, including: Allagash, Smuttynose, North Coast, Southern Tier, Hill Farmstead, Ballast Point, and others. Not a bad a little spot, I quite enjoyed our experience. Also, Old Rasputin brownies. Yum!! (4/9/13/10/9/16) 84
Visited here twice in mid November, just for the beer. Easily the busiest of all the bars we tried. Service was still good. Tap list was top notch and seemed to rotate continually. Highlights were Abner and Hermit Thrush Rakau. Lots were drinking cans of Focal Banger. Missus found it too bustling, and the prices seemed higher than average, but I’d definitely return.
Stopped by on a friday, around noon, to have drinks before heading to the Worthy Burger. Lovely place. Proudly not serving ABInbev stuff ;) Service was very prompt and frienly. Selection is one of the better, more balanced and interesting you’ll find in the neighbourhood. Prices are decent. Overall, a bar worthy of its high ratings.
Visited 7-11. Located in a pretty busy area, metered parking, but luckily it was the weekend so no coins were needed. I parked down the street a bit and walked since there weren’t any close spots. Really nice place when you walk in. We were there to eat and have beers so we sat on the left side. Not busy inside, so not much of a wait. Service was solid, but we had a server who is one that doesn’t write orders down (big turn-off for me). Got my burger medium-rare, instead of medium-well, however, I never send food back so I dealt with it. Just wished they would have writeen down the order. Fries were awesome and thin and crispy. Friends had pizzas and both liked them. Selection of beers was insane. Tons of local top tier brews on tap, so I was happy. Was able to get Society and Solitude #5 and Grassroots Legitimacy! For beer selection, this place is one of the best. Value was pretty good too, and from what I noticed most places were pretty much on the same line for drafts, bottles, cans. No complaints, I thought it was fair. Overall, pretty solid. They gave us some sticker swag when we left, which I thought was cool. Most places you have to buy the decals, but they jusy handed it out for free. For beer, I think this is the place to go if you’re staying close.
Excellent taproom. Spent a lovely Saturday afternoon here after strolling around Montpelier. Interesting and new beers I hadn’t tried from Lawson’s, Hill Farmstead and Lost Nation. It was a great tap selection for sure. The bartender was friendly with everyone and I overhead him happily giving suggestions of other places to check out to a couple of beer tourists. There’s a dining room next door if looking for a meal in a relaxed environment. A must visit.
