We visited here on Wednesday 1st October 2014. As others mention this does have a slightly worn, dare I say tatty, feel about it. Its easy to find on a hill heading up town and close to the Bodega. The bar is a large oblong with the actual bar being ahead and to your left as you enter (not sure if there we two entrances but we took first entrance walking up from town) Seats and sofas and tables are all around the outside which is set out in an L shape arrangement around the bar. Beer choice is good, it appeared to be mostly cask but they had some Octoberfest German beers on keg. The chap who served us was very chatty and friendly. I quite liked this bar, I can imagine it would be popular with the student crowd, though when we entered it was just us and a couple of old fellas. I had Allendale Export stout which if truth be told was past its best and I probably should have taken it back, it was however drinkable and having just listened to the friendly chap behind the bar telling me how good it was and the flavours it has, actually made me feel slightly awkward about returning it, I wouldnít normally feel like that and am quite happy to return beer, but I grinned and beared it on this occasion and whilst not top notch it was still drinkable. I think this place will need to up its game as there appears to be quite a few new kids on the block that are offering more than this place is doing. Bottled beer range is good but some are really quite pricey, I love Rochefort 10 but it was well over £7 a bottle here as I recall which seems really rather steep to me.

Quite a rustic and down to earth place with a decent selection of beer (especially in bottles) and very competitive prices. Gets extremely busy on matchdays, but not quite as busy as Bodega gets.

A very odd bar, bit of a dive, bright and large with hipsters, backpackers and families all drinking together. Tap list is decent, huge bottle list and prices that are a slight height. Food is crazy cheap though, but I didnít eat. Overall, a place I could waste a lot of time in.

Tilleys very much has the feel of a student hang-out. The difference being the crazy selection of beers. A heap of local stuff on cask and a variety of craft beer on Keg. The bottle selection is the best in town and includes a few beers made exclusively for them. You can take away anything on the bottle menu. Good menu was absurdly cheap. The decor is a bit rough around the edges, but do I really care? No. A surprisingly good place.

Casual, laid back, and more a North American bar than an English pub. The music they played was good when we were there. Friendly unpretentious service. Solid beer with lots of local offerings and good selection of Belgian and North American brew. Like this place.

This place is an absolute gem of a pub. Thereís something like 6 beers on cask, a bunch of stuff on keg (strangely including some Sam Smiths beers). Thereís about 125 bottled beers. Excellent range, though I didnít spy any sours on offer. The ambiance is wonderful - cozy and inviting while retaining a hip, younger vibe. The prices were fantastic considering the quality of the beer. Food prices were very cheap (chips for £1? OK!). Overall, this may have been my favourite spot in Newcastle. These guys are welcome to open a London branch any time.

From the outside you wouldn't necessarily take this as having an extensive bottle range. It has a fairly standard keg selection and a few real ales. It's quite relaxed and stylish in a quite eclectic way that is typical of bars in Newcastle. But the bottle selection, service and reasonable pricing sets it apart.

What a great selection of drinks! Currently got a selection of De Mollen, Nogne O and Anderson Valley beers in. Really good food served here too....possibly the best burger iíve ever had, anyway. Thereís a room with a Screen where they show movies. 6 Handpull beers available to sample, and a large selection of other draught products. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. A hidden gem, which doesnít look that appealing from the outside, but is quite a surprise once you get inside ...... and only 50 yards from the Bodega. Also a great drinking hole.
