Very laid back...I’m pretty sure people were smoking weed in the bar. Definitely going to stop in any time I’m in San Diego | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 dresden (40) Saskatchewan | April 29, 2013 Stopped by Toronado for lunch and a couple beer. Incredible beer menu, lots of unbelievable draft choices. Lots of incredible beer in their bottle list. Basically self serve at the bar and some people drop food off. It’s not a "nice" bar by any sense, but its clean and doesnt smell like someone pissed on the floor, so that’s a bonus. | 94 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 TapHunter (11) , | March 24, 2013| Updated March 31, 2013 they have the best Beer selection in San Diego. Relatively deserted for a Sunday afternoon. Neighborhood bar setup, with a similar vibe to San Francisco’s Toronado. 30-40 beers on tap, with an extensive and expensive bottle list. Friendly service. Neighborhood is urban and interesting. Great place for a craft beer lover. | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 Ibrew2or3 (300) Tempe, Arizona | February 28, 2013 Alright, is this cool or what? Sort of picnic bench type seating set up with wood floors, tables and chairs. They have a nice wide selection where I have typically found something new and interesting to try each visit. Aside from possible parking issues this place is top notch for beer selection, enjoyment and tasty beer options. I look forward to each visit. Go here! | 96 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 20/20 Pivoyager (72) Gaithersburg, Maryland | February 19, 2013 This was the 7th, and most anticipated stop during my San Diego Beer Week trip. For someone who has been to Toronado’s San Francisco sibling (See My Review), I was also looking forward seeing the comparison. San Diego’s version is housed behind a generic storefront situated in a bland retail section. (This North Park neighborhood is an obvious difference from Haight-Asbury district.)
Toronado SD is much more modern, and being not quite the dive as San Francisco it is more inviting. It is a tad larger in size with a moderate sized bar amid a roomier venue decorated with a myriad of beer paraphernalia plastered and strewn about. While dimly lit, there was still enough natural light to allow one to make there way around. The self-serve water station was a pleasant touch.
Much like the San Francisco venue, there is an excellent draft selection; there are about several dozen West Coast brews on tap, many of which unavailable outside the San Diego area – Alpine Brewing comes immediately to mind. And unlike, the aforementioned sister venue, this one offers food (for example, a delicious and filling Cajun sausage roll with potato salad). Top this all off with friendly and knowledgeable service and a great time is to be had by all. Then add moderate prices and one is most assuredly satisfied.
Previous reviews mention the horrendous parking in this area; no worry, since the No. 2 Bus from downtown runs right past the front door. To coin the usual cliché: Toronado San Diego is a MUST when in town. (Sometimes clichés are simply the truth told over and over.) In any case, I loved this place!
| 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 JPDurden24 (110) Chandler, Arizona | January 29, 2013 What a great time! Plenty of awesome beers on tap with a great atmosphere. The place is flat out awesome. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 GMCC2181 (66) Newark , Delaware | January 24, 2013 Stopped in Tornado on a Wednesday night... Busy and loud, with what seems to be a younger crowd....not sure if that is the normal? Draft list is really good and the bottle list is even better. Too much stuff to list.... but they have everything from east to west coast and ambers to sours. The burgers looked awesome but I had just ate so I didnt check them out. Prices are a little high but not outrageous for such a great selection of beer.Overall: Cool spot | 66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 10/20 bigbeersrule (31) | January 24, 2013 Small neighborhood type bar feel. Food consisted mostly of overpriced sausages. Pretty good tap list and bottle list but the prices on the bottles were way too high. Maybe I was expecting more after all the good reviews but was pretty disappointed. |
