First letís start with saying Iím a big fan of the SF location...attitude and all...been going there for years...but this was my first visit to this location. Obviously comparisons are hard to ignore. There are similarities and differences for certain. The Dutch door is a welcome familiar touch...along with the look of the Toronado name...all were comforting. Although I went on a Friday it was early so I got a seat at the bar. Bartender and staff were very friendly and helpful (thereís your biggest difference...although its really not a problem in SF if you arenít a either a craftbeer novice or a know-it-all). My goal was a first time taste of Pliney & Blind Pig...score one for Pliney (& Toronado)...but the Blind Pig took 3 more stops that night...haha! (tough work but someone has to do it) This is a great place...amazing beers...especially hard to get (& fresh) locally brewed crafts showcasing the incredible SD beer scene. Over the top bottle list...nice dťcor if not overly memorable. I canít get the draft beer board off my mind...did a lot of staring & choosing...lol! Donít miss this place!

We visited on a sunday night so it was very quiet, which was great cause we could sit on the bar and get recommendations from the bar tender. Service was unlike the SF location, very friendly. Nice people drinking and and generally a very laid back atmosphere. Selection on draft was pretty good but not mind blowing, quit a few things in bottles. Decor inside isnít anything amazing just some beer signs and etc. Overall a great laid-back bar with a great selection.

The first time that we visited this bar back in 2009 it had a Pizza Port Brewery head brewers leaving beer fest with a huge range of Pizza Port beers from many of their locations. There were more beers than taps so some were served from portable coolers.
So, any future visit was going to be an anti climax. Our last vist in 2013 there was still a very good range of beers with many strong ones on tap.
Quite dark inside on a bright sunny day. this palce is still a on our list of places to do next time we are in town.

After visiting the SF a couple times spot I was super excited to visit the original. Sadly, this one doesnít touch the SF. Walking in you first notice the noise, its to loud to think let alone talk. Its not the music so much as everyone is screaming because the room acoustics are so bad. Same style draft board at both locations but this board was lacking some juice. I amazingly have had all the beers on the board. Its nice they have Pliny and Blind Pig, Red Card and few others, but nothing that remotely wowed me. I grabbed a Blind Pig since I hadnít had in a while and it just didnít taste good. I had a couple sips. Service seemed much more attentive than SF. Lots of bottles lined the shelf. They didnít have any 2013 CC, but had an 08 for $200. Really not a bad price but I didnít expect it to be good at this point so I passed. The prices were the most expensive Iív seen in the city for drafts. Maybe an off night but for me Iíd stick to Hamiltonís down the road and skip this if only in town a day or 2. If I lived here, Iíd see myself coming more.

This is a solid stop in San Diego for some good beers. They have some solid taps with a great lineup of beers, but not a huge amount of taps. Reasonable beer prices for what they are serving. Food was good but nothing special, but you are it here for the food. There were some great bottles beers, but the prices are high on the bottles. Worth a stop for a some tasty beers, but there are better beer bars out there.

Visited on a trip to San Diego. One of the places to visit while in San Diego. Toronado with its sister bar in SFO are both great places to drink craft beer. Overall great ambiance with the right level of service. Awesome beer selection from the tap list to the bottle list, hard to not find something you havenít had or want to have again. Prices are also affordable for the caliber of beers they are serving. Overall a great beer bar in one of the best beer cities in the World. A must visit while in San Diego

One of the best places iíve ever been. Decor is pretty laid back, almost diner. Staff was super friendly. Quiet on a Wednesday night. 40 or so taps with line after line of interesting choices. They were gearing up for an anniversary event in a few days, so a few lines were dry. Bottle list was as impressive as reputed. Great spot, just too bad itís so far out of downtown. Certainly worth the trek.

This is hands down the best place in San Diego proper. Just the tap list alone makes it a destination before getting into the bottle list or atmosphere. Prices were on par with the area with many drafts about $6.00 to $8.00.
The bar was quiet early in the afternoon though I understand it can get hectic on the weekends (not a huge shock). On the way the bathrooms are rows of rare glassware that I have not seen outside of places in Belgium.
The drafts included many world class beers such as Blind Pig, Pliney, Almanac Golden Gate Gose, Modern Times, and more locals. Other than a pair of Rogue drafts each would have been worthy of a sample.
The bottle list takes things to a whole new level. If you are very lucky they might even have Cable Car or other elusive beers. Even if you donít you will not regret the decision to stop here. I would probably recommend making it the last though because once you stop here you will not want to make it down the street to Thorn Street, Hess, or any of the other destinations in the area.

Stopped over after a day at Sea World. Had to park down the street and got a hipster type vibe for the area, associated it with Uptown in Minneapolis. The selection is just ridiculous, though I wasnít able to land a Cable Car due to the remaining bottles being stored offsite. Not sure if that was their code for not wanting to sell to a non-regular, but at $60 my wallet (and wife) were okay with missing out. The bottle list needs some serious updating as they still had 2010 CC listed for $40.

The world class beer selection of this place gives it its high marks. Lots of local micro brews you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else. The bar was loud and dingy.. And the service wasnít what I was used to from a craft beer establishment.
