Kind of a dive. Good selection and low prices, but the blaring heavy metal, aggressive tender, and crowd kind of make it hard to sit and enjoy the subtleties of some of the brews.

Great bar in San Francisco, the selection was very good, I only concentrated on the taps. Pliny the Elder for 5 USD.Very crowded at 11:30am.Exactly like I expected it would be.i will come back.

Dive bar. This is a rock bar, donít come here if youíre dainty or delicate. Good beer list from mild to wild. Also a bottle list. Prices are great. No food, but Rosamunde next door sells sausages and you can bring them in.

A bit disappointed. Draft list was okay. Cash only which is a hassle. Bartender is in your face but in a nice way? Not too many bottles available worth getting. Maybe I caught them at a bad moment, but Toronado SD has been much better expierences imo.

Visited Friday night. Seems more like a nostalgic place than an up-to date spot. Selection is OK, nothing really amazing. Had 4 casks which is nice. No food whatsoever, service was not that pleasant, but i guess thatís like it is when itís packed. Itís nice for a first visit, but I donít think Iíll come back, there are other good places in town.

This place is fucking overrated...yeah they have a cool beer list with russian river etc on tap and its fucking cheap but the staff are rude and the ambiance is so out dated and boring. Good beer doesnt make a place, needs atmosphere...

What a dive!! Young crowd, jukebox in the back corner blasting hard rock, the place wasnít clean at all, in fact the floor was so sticky I could have done a Spider-Man impression and climbed on the ceiling.
Being from the East Coast 90% of the beers on tap I canít get back home so for me it was a win. However, I will say that it was NOT fun coming here on a Friday night. Nothing but college kids, I think Iím getting too old for that shit. Oh, and in case you have heard, cash only!!

Not sure what to say on top of the other ~300 reviews. Itís an SF landmark for beers. Cash only - giant selection on the board over the bar. Not a place where you will get lyrical, comprehensive recommendations from the barkeeps, but the selection is awesome.

Small dive bar with loud music and amazing beer. I had Pliny the Younger for the first time here years ago and I keep coming back every year during SF beer week for either russian river night or the barleywine festival. Great value and they tend to have beer here you probably canít find anywhere else. Bartenders tend to be fairly grumpy and seem to always have a scowl and an attitude. I guess thatís part of their charm? I donít get it. Cash only.

Toronado is located on Haight Street in the lower Haight area of downtown San Francisco. Street parking is available in the surrounding area but could be challenging depending on time of day.
The exterior exudes neighborhood bar. Inside is dark with a DYI feel. The bar runs along the right side and there are high top tables along the left. There is a large board with a lot of stickers overhanging the center of the space listing the beers. Behind the bar is a view of the tap handles and a neon "GARAGE SERVICE" sign. A couple TVs above the bar as well.
Toronado has around 50 draughts, with CA breweries like Russian River, Golden Road, Marin, Ballast Point, Speakeasy, Stone, Out Of Bounds and Alpine represented. The bottled selection is over 50 again with many CA breweries on the menu, and some vintage and rare beers.
Service on a busy weekday evening was decent. The bar was packed so it was a pretty straightforward "ask for and receive a beer" transaction.
Toronado does not serve food.
All in all I can see why Toronado has earned itís divey San Fran beer mecca credentials. I would definitely visit again.

Small, crowded, and loud, but for some reason I still really enjoyed my time at this bar. Service was great considering how many people were packed into this small area. They have a large selection of hard to find locals and a few of the heavy hitters. They donít serve food, but they allow you to BYOF.
