Place rating number 1200!

I didnít know what to expect besides hipster when I walked in. How similar was this going to be to the Mikkeller bar in SF? I think this came first so I guess it would be a situation of the Mikkeller bar being like this. Anyway, theyíre not that similar really. This place of course had a good number of Evil Twin beers available and plenty of guest beers. The bartender was nice enough to pour some free tasters. In the end I went with a full glass of one of the hoppy options. Pretty cool glass that this stuff comes in. The place is dimly lit and kind of quiet. Prices are of course sky high but what do you expect. I can only imagine what the restaurant portion is like. On the subject of food I enjoyed a steak salad. The meet was cooked fairly rare, which I was OK with. What bothered me was the damn arugula. Give it a rest. And while weíre at it (note to all chefs): please stop using dandelion greens. They are not pleasant (see my rating of DBGB). It didnít distract too much from the overall quality of the food but Iím officially over arugula.

The service was friendly despite my obvious disdain for hipsters. On that subject, I think Iím going to relent on the war against the uniqueness of looking like everyone else. Itís really just a fashion style now, not so much a philosophy so what do I care? Cool place overall and Iíd recommend it to anyone in/around Brooklyn.

Continuing on our beery trek we walked to Torst, the bar representation of Evil Twin Brewing. As anticipated they had an excellent, but spendy tap list. One nice thing is the ability to order smaller pours of the beers that are stronger or more expensive. I have a theory that the artwork on their custom glassware has hidden measurements in it, but others said the servers were pretty much eyeballing it so who knows. I took a quick look at the bottle list but at the prices they were charging there was nothing sufficiently attention grabbing to tempt me away from the draft list today. That might change on a return visit though. Decor is nice enough, the bar itself looks pretty slick, the mirrored tap lists can be hard to read at times (or maybe thatís just my eyesight? Who knows). Music is pretty loud. The mostly communal seating is fine - Iím not personally a fan but it makes sense for such a small space. We were lucky that two nice gentleman swapped their seats with us so we could sit with our group of friends. The problem when it is busy is that the long narrow space means that much of the standing room is the same space as the "ordering a drink" space, so there are not a ton of places to stand that are not in the way. Fortunately it cleared out just as we got our drinks so that worked in our favour. The service was a bit abrupt, which is mostly forgivable for how busy they were, but anecdotally that seems to be the standard. I liked the place overall, the quality of the taps means that I will definitely be back despite any minor failings (many of which are personal preference/just me being a cranky old fart) but like many other places I would like to come back at a quieter time if possible.

Cool, spotless and not your typical beer hangout. Very interesting selection on tap when I visited. Lots of Evil Twin at very reasonable prices. And the fab Limfjorsdporter, too. Good selection of sours. Very loud music, but it was right up my alley: Human League, New Order, Joy Division. The original post-punk seems to be in vogue all over New York. Not many visitors, though, but it was a rainy night.

Love coming in to see whatís coming next...that is if you can find the door. Love the minimalistic feel of the marble and wooden tap handles. Staff is quite knowledgeable and friendly....They also play their own spotify...so ask if you donít like the music.

Beautiful bar. Fantastic build. Food options are tasty. Service was acceptable not exceptional. Crowd kind varies depending on the time of day. Fantastic selection of beer. 20 taps half were Evil Twin (who own the place?) *it was freezing cold when i was in there last as in we were all bundled up. Didnt seem to bother anyone though since the beer is soooo good. Must go if you are a beer person and are visiting from out of town.

Resonably priced for Brooklyn. Extra hipster vibe. European (italian) heavy tap list.

Its funny you can take Danish style out of of Denmark but you can you replicate it in the US? Beer great. Design pretty stunning. Ambiance - yeah well - if you like thrash music loud and if you like disdain from the barman if you dare to ask for the sound to be turned down to match the decor - well perhaps think twice. Pity, weíd so looked forward to visiting. Would go again if bar staff polished their act to match what the owner intended. Grunge is not always cool.

Torst has 21 taps that are filled with some of the most special offerings I have ever seen. Most of it is Euro, but think Euro craft (Evil Twin heavy, Birrificio), not just standard Belgian. There is a bit of American offering on draft, and a lot more American available on the bottle list. At first, Torst feels like it could be a snotty beer geek bar, but itís honestly just a fun, nice place. When a keg ran out, the bartender got on a step ladder and erased the old beer (listed above the bar) and everyone was cheering him on as he wrote the name of the new rare beer being tapped. Also, one cannot forget about the tap system. Every single draft line is temperature controlled independently and has its own set mixture of CO2 and Nitro. Theyíre serious. But theyíre fun. MUST VISIT.
