90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20
Iíve been here a couple of times now, each time with a group of friends. This certainly seems the kind of place you want to go with a few people. Not to say I wouldnít go here alone, Iíd just rather go with others as the tap list and bottle list are rather daunting and it makes it very nice to be able to order a few things and share them. First time here there were 10-15 of us and it never seemed to present a problem for the servers and they continued to be super friendly and helpful all the way through. The dťcor is sort of a lightly refined sauna. Lots of wood on the walls but enough modern aspects mixed in to make it feel very welcoming. For a small long place with windows only at the front, it never seemed overly dark, perhaps due to the huge (and well lit) behind the length of the bar. That is one of the only tough things at times, the taplist is written on the mirror and can be a bit tough to read at times. The tap list both times Iíve been here has been solid, lots of Evil Twin, some Mikkel, and some other interesting stuff. Plenty of new things to try each time, and often more than I could get through in a day, even sharing pours (a lot of them tend toward the bigger side). The bottle list is nice as well, offering a lot of harder to come by Evil Twin stuff, and smaller batch things. While there may have been things like Blabaer or other crazy things on the bottle list at one point, that is not the reason to come here. Thatís more of a unexpected bonus if there happens to be something like that on, but donít count on it, and certainly donít come just for that. Come for the lists (tap and bottle) full of things that may be equally hard to come by, just not as well known or talked about. And get the Danish bread. Seriously. Get a few orders of it. That stuff is incredible.

Nice ambiance, they certainly put a lot of work into it. The bar itself is beautiful. I didnít go in the back room, I just wish the main room was a little larger and lighter. I thought the service was great, they had lots of bartenders on hand so I never had to wait. Part of me wishes they had table service but if the bar service is always that good it doesnít matter. The selection was obviously amazing; the most unique beer list iíve ever seen. They did a really good job of including everything from very low ABV to very high, and lots of variety with styles. Perhaps maybe a little heavy on the porter/stouts, especially given it was late spring. Others have complained about the value but I didnít think it was that bad. Welcome to new york! I also like the ability to get 8oz pours. I have to give this place a 20 overall though, just for the pure ridiculousness of it. A great addition to BK and a great effort.

Hands down one of the best beer bars in NYC and the world. With an ever changing selection of world class beers, TÝrst strives for nothing short of excellence. Definitely worth the visit to Greenpoint.

What a fantastic bar. Absolute attention to detail in the design and set up of their beer system, generous and intriguing beer list, more or less reasonable prices. Great that theyíll do smaler pours so you can try more things. The neighborhood attracts a lot of hipsters but on an afternoon we were able to get a large table up front and take our time to enjoy. Canít wait to come back when the restaurant opens. Immediately a favorite spot, though I imagine this can get crowded and overrun. Still, a destination place in NYC

I visited Torst today & enjoyed my time there very much. This is a very original craftbeer bar (only open 1 1/2 months)...with a Danish theme...which makes sense since the owner Jeppe is Danish. He is also a gypsy brewer and many of his beers are available on tap & in the bottle (and can) under the Evil Twin & Westbrook names. He brews in SC, CT, & Denmark among other places. The bartender Anthony was very helpful which was important given the large selection of unusual & hard to find beers & Torst not offering flights. That meant I had to order 8oz glasses to have even a chance of sampling a variety of the beers (vs the 14oz pours). I started with a very unique Evil Twin Bikini Beer...believe it or not a 2.7% IPA! I then moved to the Italiano Tipopils Pilsner at 5%...nice and dry...followed by the Dark Horse Crooked Tree IPA at 6.5%...my favorite of the day. I finished with a can of Westbrook IPA at 6.8% that Jeppe has made in the brewery of that name...very nice European style IPA. Although both the draft & bottle lists are impressive...keep in mind many of these beers you will likely not have heard of given they are from gypsy brewers (Jeppe and others I presume). Thatís part of the fun of course but I recommend several visits as well as leaning on one of the bartenders. Although they have cheese & meat boards...the real menu & Danish restaurant will open up in a back room in the near future (or so I was told). Although this is a great place...especially so shortly into its inception...I think the 100 ratings a number of people have given are way too generous (or enthusiastic). A place doesnít get a 100 rating out of the gate...it needs to earn it over time...& prove that their success is not a fluke. I also canít give a perfect score to value. This place is on the expensive side...& thatís OK given its NYC & unusual beers...but still not a 10 in this category...same thing with the ambiance...really nice...but a perfect score? Finally...& this is just me personally...before I give a 100 rating I would usually like to see a hand pump, or a cask ale...or just a little more character & history to the place. Still...great new craftbeer establishment...definitely worth a special trip.

Pros: Outrageously good Evil Twin & other selection; knowledgeable, friendly staff; cool space, limited but quality menu
Cons: can get very crowded with scene-y types; best during the weekday/off hours.

Destination beer bar, by far. Excellent service, tap selection, bottle list, ambiance and feel. One of the most beautiful looking bars, as well. All recognition due to Jeppe, Dan, Jon, and the rest of the TÝrst family. Would never pass a chance of re-visiting!

Finally, a world class beer bar in NYC! Youíve likely read plenty about Torst already, with its ridiculous bottle list and specialty taps you canít find anywhere else. Can be a tad pricey, but hey, this *is* New York.
This is a giant step in the right direction -- hereís hoping NYC becomes a legit beer destination to compete with Portland, SF, SD, and Vermont.

Wow... First word that came to mind when walking into Torst after waiting outside in a snow storm for an hour on opening day! I would catch pnemonia to come back!! :)
This place was incredible all around. Atmosphere, selection, staff everything was perfect.
Not every day or even in a lifetime are you able to sit at a bar and order some of the worlds best and rarest lambics in one sitting. It was an experience I will never forget and I cannot wait to go back!

Imagine going into a wine bar, ordering a glass of Bordeaux, and having it served at 40f. No, right? But thats excactly what a lot of beer bars out there do, you order a 12% imperial stout and they serve it in a pint glass ice cold. Torst doesnít, but thatís just one of the reasons Torst is better than most. Excellent service, beer list out of this world, bar food that is perfect with beer and a chef who clearly understands quality. What more to ask for?
