One of the true gamechangers in the NYC beer scene, Torst should be a staple for years to come. If you donít like their prices try going somewhere else for the same beers. Donít hate the player hate the game. You simply will not find this selection elsewhere. Hats off to the crew. Game recognize game.

Well worth the trip. Sunday at 2:00 might be the perfect tume to visit
I'm not sure where to start actually. Layout is somewhat reminiscent of sputyn Duvall in Williamsburg. Definitely a Nordic feel to the place but the mirror draft board behind the taps gives it a somewhat French feel. The tap system is mind blowing. Different styles poured at exactly the right temp. The beer list is decidedly euro influenced -- tons of collaboration beers and no shortage of barrel aged selections. Short pours, tasters, extensive bottle list. This place is a can't miss.

Where do I start with this one. Ambiance is very interesting, small tight bar, small woden long tables with tap list written on mirrors above the taps. Very hipster esque. Service was good for how crowded it was, and friendly bartenders. Selection is just off the charts between the one off tap stuff, awesoem bottle list, and even some surprises not listed on the menu i;ve never seen a list like this before, ever! I thoguht value was very good considering the quality of beer that is being offered on tap, and the fact that everything can be had in 8 oz portions, mostly for $5, which allows many ticks to be had without breaking the bank. Overall an absolute must stop if in NYC area.

Though the initial excitement has worn off, this place is solid for three observed reasons: the bottle list, the tap list, and the atmosphere. I wish I could add parking. The bottle list because of special European availability, though no longer the European only Cantillons. The tap list because of the great selections of Europe and the USA as well as a good and not overwhelming selection of the Evil Twins. The lower comfortable bar and comfortable major league service. Excitement will surely pick up with the upcoming restaurant.

Visited early evening with Max and James. Easy to find place, right above the Nassau Station on the G train. Long bar with 20 or seats, with tables in front, and along the side. I visited prior to the back room being open, so this review is only about the bar. The highlight of Torst is certainly the beers. Draft selection was 21 beers, 11 of which were Evil Twin beers. Prices on draft are a touch high, though not out of control the quality. The bottle list is really the exceptional aspect - there are bottles that I have only seen here. Blaeber, Framboos, etc. These are very pricey, though I mean from a sheer economic perspective, are fairly priced. It will be interesting to see if this place can maintain a list like this over time. The service was pretty aloof, and it took awhile to get beers, even before the place was crowded. As mentioned by others, the mirrored draft list is difficult to read, though I am told they are fixing that. Overall, this is a must visit place for visitors and locals alike for the beer lists alone.

I had the pleasure to spend several nights at TÝrst during the opening weekend. I was blown away by the experience. Truly the highlight of my beer bar visiting life.
The style is fantastic. It is a perfect combination of old world, rustic charm incredibly balanced with modern finishes. Inviting and comfortable yet classy and upscale without pretension all at the same time. That combination is rarely achieved but TÝrst has done it.
The service was spot on. Let me say again: this was during opening weekend. Most places struggle a bit in this area when they are new and still working out the kinks. However TÝrst made everything seem effortless. The staff was friendly, engaging and eager to please as well as educate.
The selection is unparalleled. There is no better place in the world right now for the true beer geek. The draft list is brilliantly curated with endless rarities, one-offs, and fantastic selections at very reasonable prices. Many draft selections are available in two different sizes allowing for more sampling. I have never seen so many beers on tap that Iíve never had before. The bottle list is absolutely stunning. Filled with incredible offerings that most have only heard of but never seen in person. Rarities doesnít begin to describe the selection. The best, most sought after beers in the world nonchalantly listed on the menu. It takes your breath away.
The food plates were delicious! When the full restaurant opens I have no doubt that it will be just as world class as the front bar.
I have traveled all of the world, specifically for beer. I have been to all the "best" beer bars in numerous countries. The bottom line here is that nothing compares to TÝrst. This is the best beer bar anywhere in the world as far as I am concerned. The care and knowledge that the owners have put in to the creation of this concept is evident. They have clearly spent many years developing the kinds of relationships with brewers necessary to accomplish the selection they offer.
This is an absolute must visit. Plan to stay a while.

Let me just start by saying this is an excellent bar. First and foremost the draft selection when i visited was outstanding. Seems like the plan is to avoid tap takeovers and while that may disappoint some tickers, it really made my day. From foreign drafts that i havenít seen since Stockholm to excellent US lines; i was blown away. One of the real defining moments in the bar was never having a down moment despite not one TV. I will say a drawback was the bottle list was pricey and some of those gems really get up there. That aside the bottle list really was world class so if you donít mind spending a bit i have no doubt that youíd be floored. Additionally i will say they are on par for the most part of any other world class bar so not sure i can fault much for that. They had a small selection of meat and cheese platters that i did not sample but from what i could see from others they looked above average and fairly priced. It was a packed bar and while the service was friendly (at the bar only no table service), sometimes it took a while to get a draft. Though to be honest I did order a few at a time, as seemed to be the trend, and i can imagine as a new place figuring out adequate staffing is always a challenge. Overall; it really is an outstanding establishment, if you are remotely close its a must visit. Cheers!

TÝrst is as close as it comes to beer bar perfection.
An unassuming exterior opens up to a very sleek, simple, slightly rustic, somewhat Nordic interior. The tap set-up is pretty neat and well organized, and allows for exceptionally quick, efficient service, despite the place always being crowded.
The selection is unmatched. Thereís seemingly always something special on tap, as well as a number of unique offerings. The bottle list is as impressive as it gets. If youíre in New York and you want to sample some rare bottles, TÝrst is the place you want to be. Just be prepared to pay for it.
If youíre visiting from out of town, this should be your number one destination when it comes to beer, hands down. TÝrst is a special place.

Awesome new brew mecca that is sure to be a huge hit. I came by on a dreary, snowy Monday evening, a few weeks after it opened, and there were plenty of customers already. And why is it already on the way to becoming a living legend? Because the quality is awesome, that is why. The drafts emphasized Evil Twin of course (since he/they run the place in case you didnít know), but there were a number of other interesting selections as well The brews are served thru a "flux capacitor" or something like that, which is a phrase borrowed from a science fiction story, but at Torst it is a device that allows different beers to be served at different temperatures and with differing amounts of added gases. Not surprisingly the bottle list also features some rare items. And if that werenít enough, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the prices, given the quality on tap here, are quite reasonable. They will be adding a tasting menu soon also, put together by a rising young chef, and I am looking forward to giving that a try. I am tempted to keep my mouth shut so that more and more people donít start pouring thru its unmarked door, but I have to tip my hat to the "evil twin" and his crew - this place is something special.

In short, this is Evil Twin/Jeppeís answer to MikkelerBAR only in New York instead of Copenhagen. Came with the entire NYC ratebeer group for a Saturday afternoon. Secret, unassuming white door is your entrance. Could easily pass by without knowing it was here. Interior is clean, simple, woodwork and white. Long bar with a long mirror displaying the tap list on handwritten white marker. All tap beers served in stemmed wine glasses, smaller 8oz pours and larger 12+ oz pours. Prices were reasonable up to $8 per pour. Selection is a case of quality over quantity: Probably 20 taps but excellent diversity with focus on Evil Twin of course, Belgian, other Danish beers. Tap list when I was there was lacking in American beers but no matter. Keg rotation here is quick, nothing insane like Ma Che Siete but certainly very quick with no stale keg backlog. Special edition one-off stuff on tap that you will never find anywhere else like Port BA Even More Jesus, Gin Barrel 1809 Berliner. Bottle list is insane. Letís just say that if there is a rare bottle of beer youíve been after, try and ask if it is available even if not on the menu. Food plates were cured meats, Danish rugbrod, pickled vegetables, olives. All very high quality, perfect for beer pairing. It is clear that Jeppe knows exactly what is needed when trying a flight of different specialties beers. The restaurant in the back is not open yet, but once it is, I have no doubt the food quality will be extremely high. Very cozy, clean, happening place. Was very crowded and hopping at 3-4pm on Saturday and Iím sure continued like that until close. Service was quick, on the ball, understood all of our crazy orders, clearly trained well and understand beer. Did not make me wait for more than 1-2 minutes for an order despite the large crowd. Had the great privilege to chat with Jeppe 1 on 1 for about 15 minutes. Pretty amazing experience. Even got to meet Elliot!
