50 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 10/20 starkbeer78 (8) Nashua, New Hampshire | February 23, 2013 I had an absolutely killer pizza and some god awful brews here. Everything tasted very homoginized. Nothing really malty, nothing hoppy. Just sort of bleh. The tanks surrounding the dining room are cool to look at. It was very obvious this was a restaurant using craft beer as a niche. I would look elsewhere if in St. Louis. | 66 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20 csaso (129) Missouri | December 3, 2012 Nice litle place in downtown St. Charles. Beer and food are both fair. About 5 regualr beers plus one seasonal. Not a bad place for a quick stop, but dont expect too much. | 60 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 13/20 msante79 (335) Mount Prospect, Illinois | June 9, 2012 Very cool building in great little main street that St. Charles has. Went with the wife and kids and they sat us in a basement room so did not get a great feel of the bar area but it looked nice. Only 6 beers on tap and all were average at best. Food was a little disappointing but the pizza was better than expected. Service was a bit lacking. Kind of a tourist brewpub. Worth a breif stop if working in the area, but there are too many good breweries in STL to make a trip out to this place. | 64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 phaleslu (314) Cincinnati, Ohio | May 29, 2012 My wife and I visited here on Memorial Day after riding a segment of the Katy Trail. The location is as good as it gets in St. Charles, right down along the Trail and riverfront in the old historic district. The building itself is really cool on the backside, which is an old brick wall with a water will facing a stream, but the entrance is newer and bland. The interior is split-level, with a rectangle bar area upstairs and some dining rooms downstairs and on the sides. Pretty big. There was a single bartender handling lunch, and she was good. There are 5 permanent taps- Missouri Brown, Trailhead Red, Riverboat Raspberry, Trailblazer Blond, and the Old Courthouse Stout on Nitro- plus 1 rotator, so there’s not much unexpected here. The Maibock was on when we visited. The food is decent, pretty much average American pub fare. The beer itself is below average, nothing special at all. For that reason, and the distance of the place from where I live, I don’t have a reason to return. That said, it’s worth visiting if you’re out here because there aren’t many other options and it’s a good place overall. | 62 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 rebsiot (7) Missouri | April 9, 2012 Another casual dining place that is located in a historic district with some backstory. Food was decent but not memorable, same for the beer selection. Beer selection is standard fare + their microbrews. | 84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 JAG55 (10) O’Fallon, Missouri | August 21, 2011 nice microbrewery with great atmosphere. Good variety of brew selections. Most of the beers tend to be a bit average craft brews but they do have some very good seasonal. Food is good too. | 62 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 Toes14 (11) Ballwin, Missouri | July 19, 2011 I go to this place more for the food than for the beer. I like the Porter and the Brown Ale. The Amber used to be better, but has declined the last couple times I’ve been there. My brother raves about the Rainbow Red Ale, which has a fruity finish. (I’m not into fruit beers.)
The food is excellent, from the crab & artichoke dip to the fish & chips to the BBQ Chicken Pizza to the Salmon. If you can’t find something you like on the menu here, you are just too damn picky!
The service is usually good but not great. Lunch service tends to be better as it’s less crowded. They have two smaller patios full of tables that are nice if you can find a table there. The patios also have ceiling fans and heaters to help when the weather isn’t perfect.
You won’t find any incredible new beers here, but you will find a few decent ones to be paired with some great food. Try hitting this place before you go to the Casino. | 66 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 jandd1983 (122) Florissant, Missouri | February 21, 2011 Visited a few times before, and the atmosphere is always fun. We tried the sampler this time and enjoyed all but one. We ordered a meal and they were both very good. The service at the bar is lacking a smile now and then, but overall, a decent place to spend an afternoon or evening. | 64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 Bif (64) St. Louis, Missouri | August 6, 2010 The Trailhead Brewing Company is located in "Historic" St. Charles and is a nice fit to the community. It is also close to the Ameristar Casino. The main bar is at the head of the staircase with dining areas set off on either side. The menu has a good variety and is priced fairly average. The service is generally very good but once in a while it’s not quite in sync. They normally have 5-6 regular beers on tap along with 1-2 seasonal brews. The beers for the most part are generic & unoffensive to their style. If the beer was a bit more robust or flavorful I would probably stop in more than 1-2 times a year. | 64 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 Strykzone (78) Wood River, Illinois | July 15, 2010 Stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised with the facility. A very short drive off I70 with plenty of parking across the street and a couple of blocks away. It sits right across from the Katy Trail cycle route and from the Missouri River. A nice rustic building and good food that is reasonably priced. Beer was $4 per pint and they have 6 of their beers on tap. I wish the beer was better here and if it were I would go more often. |
