A friend took me here summer 2004. The place has a nice layout and a very comfortable atmosphere. The staff was outstanding, the bar tender knew everything about the beer, the brewing process and even told us about other local breweries to check out. Iím a big IPA fan, so this place was great considering they have a lot of hoppy beers, I recommend the cask IPA.

This brewpub is nice and roomy with a very open layout and a nice view of them making beer from the bar. The food is relatively cheap. I had a tasty grilled chicken sandwich on a roll with fries for $7. The rooftop patio is great for sipping beer in the sun and they had a wide variety of beers on tap with 5oz tasters available for $1.50. Overall the beer was good not super and I liked the food. Iíll be back.

A Bay Area classic and one of the first brew pubs around. Hoppy beers that were probably influential in establishing West Coast style. Classic looking place with slow but friendly service and good pub grub at student-friendly prices.

Great place. We were there for the Firkin Festival, and there were about 20 brewers from the Bay Area. Hard to rate since we were there during an event. Considering that, the service was amazing very friendly, and if they organize these kinds of events I assume that the selection is pretty good too.

I was here for the first time in April of 2006 and had a great time. I was here again last week (March 2008) with my brother who lives in Berkeley. Their IPAX is a really good and very fresh tasting beer. I wanted to try their MonkeyHead but we were there Wednesday and they only pour that one on Thursdays.

Overall a great place to have some EXCELLENT ales on tap.Their APAís and IPAís are really good, and they always have something nice on nitro. The food is mediocre, but you donít go here for the food. You go here for beer, which they have plenty of 5-star beers on tap.

This place is very nice. I visited in August of 2007. The atmosphere is very interesting with lots of beer memorabilia on the walls. They have a very nice selection I enjoyed the hefeweizen, IPA and the stout. The food is outstanding. I had the avocado burger. If I lived in Berkeley I would visit on a regular basis. A very enjoyable experience

Just a couple blocks up Shattuck from the BART station. Small place. There are three people at the bar who have managed to take up all of the seating. They had several house brew options. Their IPEX was solid. Had the hand cut fries with mild spices that really tasted good and hit the spot. Two big flat panel displays set up for supreme sports viewing. They have a tiny brew set up next to the bar and front door. It looks to be less than a 5 BBL system. Overall the beer selection is limited compared to nearby pubs. But I donít think youíll find their hose brews elsewhere. If so it is worth a visit for something new to try.

I love this place. The food order may get confused, but not the ale order. Usually two ales on cask. To die for. DUI? Find an outlying BART station and let BART do the transport. Hit the Jupiter as well; itís only a few blocks away.
