70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 13/20 theisti (352) Leawood, Kansas | April 25, 2013 Visited later evening on a Wednesday. Located in the Baker neighborhood (right next to the Bakers Commons building). Long narrow room, with a large group table up front, a bunch of seats at the long bar, and plenty of space to stand around. The brewery itself is just beyond the bar. Clean, modern design with very much the rock club feel they are going for. 11 beers on, quite a bit of variety in styles. Good service, seemed like a solid crowd of locals. | 60 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 11/20 notalush (279) Denver, Colorado | January 10, 2013| Updated January 11, 2013 So I got over my initial aversion to this place and decided to give them a shot - I should preface this review by stating that this place is totally not my scene, so take this review with a grain of salt - a fair amount of space - this is a true "metal brewery" - black and grey everything - dim lighting - pentagram over the tap handles - metal music blasting - black metal art all over the place - it’s like a suburban teenager’s basement bedroom in this place - not a fan - this is a shame, because the beer is fairly creative, albeit a bit hit or miss - some is sub par, but others are quite good - the stout in particular is excellent (think a non-imperial version of Yeti) - staff was friendly and attentive - it’s kind of a shame that they have carved such a narrow niche for themselves in terms of ambiance, as this may keep certain people away (myself included, at least with any regularity), but I am sure all the twenty-somethings in the surrounding neighborhoods eat this shit up, so it’s probably all good for them - worth a stop if you can tolerate the terrible atmosphere. | 92 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 19/20 goneaway (1) Denver, Colorado | October 18, 2012| Updated January 11, 2013 I’m a frequent flier here so I’m not sure I can objectively rate TRVE, but I do enjoy hanging out here. They’re doing a better job with beer availability and everyone who works here is nicer than they need to be. They have food trucks in front a couple nights a week. Douchebaggery is not tolerated here so generally things are relaxed and amiable. Good enough for me to drive across town and continually improving. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 gnoff (256) Mölndal, Sweden | October 12, 2012| Updated January 11, 2013 Visited with a friend on October 12, 2012. Did not eat, not sure if you can. They had 6 of 7 beers on tap, the only one missing was due to they had delivered it to GABF and had one in the fermenter that wasn’t done yet. Great service. Inside is mainly black with some paintings. Music is metal, though not super loud so OK to talk still. Cool neighborhood place that I’d go back to. | 60 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 12/20 BeerandBlues2 (458) Hanover, Maryland | September 28, 2012| Updated January 11, 2013 A quaint little brewery just South of downtown. The space has seating for several dozen patrons, and the tanks are just beyond the bar. While there are eight tap handles, only three beers were pouring. Of these, all three were good but the Smoked Tea Saison (Diotima) stole the show. The staff is very friendly and attentive. | 64 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 adnielsen (325) Fort Collins, Colorado | September 4, 2012| Updated January 11, 2013 Four beers on tap during my visit with one being good and the others being average. I’m going to sound like an old man here, but the loud heavy metal music is unbearable and no matter how good the beer is, I couldn’t spend more than 90 minutes here. If you like heavy metal, fucking a, go here. But if no, watch out. | 66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 bleeng (123) Houston nowhere near Beersel, Texas | July 21, 2012 Stopped by in the late afternoon. Long, narrow building with some really cool pictures of abandoned Kansas farmsteads-worth the visit alone. Only 4 beers on tap but they are working with a very small brewing system. That knocks the score down. Service was good. The metal music got a bit loud later on. Worth a visit. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 Steve_0 (72) Denver, Colorado | July 15, 2012 Stopped in here one day randomly just so I could see what they were all about. I sat down and my order was promptly taken. Then the owner, Nick, came over and introduced himself and asked me if I was doing alright. We chatted it up for a while and I was really suprised at how friendly he was, as well as, all of the staff. The beer wasn’t bad, and I think it will continue to improve; from reading the reviews it seems like it already has just over the past couple of months. This brewery is really different than most others, not beer-wise, but atmosphere-wise. The walls are painted black and the art is very dark on the walls, but I kind of dig it. My one complaint is that they play Metal in the background, but it wasn’t loud enough to bother me much. If you are looking for something different and are around the neighborhood I think this place is worth a stop. |
