Their 1 year anniversary Wolpertinger party was my first visit to the shiny stainless-steel microbrewery, which fills the inside of a huge refurbished old brick garage or firehouse, along with a classy little tap-room restaurant serving all their beers (of course) plus predictable Germanic gastro-pub type food. Servers and bartenders were very friendly and knowledgeable. Cool atmosphere, artwork, merchandise section, clean bathrooms, an all-around cool place. I don’t live downtown, so it’s off my beaten path, but I’ll definitely make it a destination again. In the meantime, I’ll keep sampling the Urban Chestnut taps around town, and any day now, store-bought bottles!

Twinned a stop here with a pilgrimage to Pappy’s Smokehouse, which is only a couple of blocks away. The large Biergarten has rows of communal tables, and probably would have been a fun way to waste a few hours if it wasn’t so hot outside. I opted to hang out in the bar instead. 15 taps were available pouring exclusively UCB brews. Flights are limited to only 4 beers, so it would cost a decent amount to try everything. The Zwickel was outrageously tasty, and I ended up drinking it at a few other venues over the weekend. Obviously this place excels at the traditional German styles, but the American stuff wasn’t bad either. Prices are decent. Overall, a worthy stop. I’d love to come back on a nice day to sit in the biergarten and knock back a few litres of the Zwickel.

A really cool place with a German bierhall feel on the inside and a nice biergarten outside. Bartenders were friendly and helpful on my visit. They had 15 taps available with some bottles to go. Four beer samplers available. I did not sample the food on my visit and prices were good. A really nice brewpub.

Visited during RBSG14 Meet & Greet. Staff was very kind to host us (and put up with us). Cool charming interior, perfectly lit and spaced out. Spacious outdoor beer garden. Impressive, solid list of house beers. I enjoyed my visit and would return.

Visited during the RBSG 2014 meet and greet. Small bar with a good amount of tables. Didn’t check out the patio. Decent selection of beers. Beers that I tried were mostly average with a couple of good brews. Limited food menu, tried the bratwurst on pretzel bun which was fine. Parking was pretty packed around 8 PM.

A really nice brewpub with a huge outdoor area, perfect for whatever you are looking for. Self serve but efficient. Selection is their own brews which are decent, but nothing special. I didn’t eat, but it looked like meat and cheese plates were the specialty. Prices were decent. Overall a nice place to hang out, but nothing particularly stands out.

Quaint and laid-back indoors. Great food and urban neighborhood atmosphere outdoors. Lots of good lagers and interesting ales. Unique. Fun. Parking can be tough.

Stopped in on a Thursday evening on a night that had a Blues home playoff game. The game was on a TV in the back room, but there were no TVs in the main area. I expected the place to be pretty busy because of the game, but there might have been ten other people there that night. There is a dedicated parking lot, which we were lucky enough to find a spot to park. There’s also lot’s of street parking available before, and after the brewery on the same street. The taps were filled with their own, primarily German style beers. They also had bottles available in 4 packs as well as a special barrel aged beer they were selling individually. Pricing for everything was very reasonable. I had a couple flights and got a growler to go and it was around $30. I had to buy the glass for the growler fill. They did have a small food menu, but I didn’t get anything. I would definitely come back if the opportunity presented itself. This place is very laid back and it’s just around the block from Pappy’s Smokehouse.

You can bring your children to this place, and there is a lovely outdoor area. The food is very healthy, and tasty. The beer seems very uniquely German. Prices are reasonable.

How have I not rated this? I have been to the original UCBC a number of times and each time is a delight. Not long ago they opened an exceptional beer garden and we love to take our dog there. The beers are always outstanding in their German traditional styles. Flroian is beyond impressive. I love going here. Sometimes parking can be a challenge but not usually. They usually have a little something to eat but not very much and it is more snack kind of food.
