Something was strange about this Sunday night in St. Louis, as in nobody was out anywhere. Urban Chestnut had only two other patrons. I’m sure they get busy other nights as it is a beautiful piece of property. After you walk by the brewing equipment you enter a spacious, wooden interior. The back room has a free old school dartboard and foosball table. Outside is a very large beer garden directly across the street from a church. The beer is excellent as well. There is a good variety of styles including a few unorthodox things. We enjoyed our visit and my buddy took a 1L growler of hopfen for later enjoyment.
typical taproom in a warehouse setup but they do have a nice outdoor biergarten which is nice during St. Louis’s 3 week summers. They had 12-14 on tap with their German offerings being the big standouts. Everyone was cordial and friendly which is a plus. The kitchen was closed when I got there so I can’t comment on the food though they do offer it.
Interesting place with its own parking lot -major plus there! Inside is a large wraparound bar and a few other tables. 14 taps running when I was there, with a German-inspired taplist. Flights of four available with 5 oz pours. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly, and they new their beer as well. Beer was solid. All in all a really good place and well worth a stop.
Came here with Joe. Nice place. Good beers. Fair prices. Didn’t have any food. But a worthwhile stop when in STL.
New rating: March 2015. Great place. Staff was very knowledgable and they had lots of great beers on tap, more than when I went several years ago. Probably the best brewery stop in STL.
Twinned a stop here with a pilgrimage to Pappy’s Smokehouse, which is only a couple of blocks away. The large Biergarten has rows of communal tables, and probably would have been a fun way to waste a few hours if it wasn’t so hot outside. I opted to hang out in the bar instead. 15 taps were available pouring exclusively UCB brews. Flights are limited to only 4 beers, so it would cost a decent amount to try everything. The Zwickel was outrageously tasty, and I ended up drinking it at a few other venues over the weekend. Obviously this place excels at the traditional German styles, but the American stuff wasn’t bad either. Prices are decent. Overall, a worthy stop. I’d love to come back on a nice day to sit in the biergarten and knock back a few litres of the Zwickel.
A really cool place with a German bierhall feel on the inside and a nice biergarten outside. Bartenders were friendly and helpful on my visit. They had 15 taps available with some bottles to go. Four beer samplers available. I did not sample the food on my visit and prices were good. A really nice brewpub.
Visited during RBSG14 Meet & Greet. Staff was very kind to host us (and put up with us). Cool charming interior, perfectly lit and spaced out. Spacious outdoor beer garden. Impressive, solid list of house beers. I enjoyed my visit and would return.
