92 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 19/20 piscator34 (37) Winnipeg, Manitoba | November 24, 2004 Great service and selection. It was a real pleasure to shop here. Almost everything I wanted was available in singles (rather than 6 packs), which was very nice. A great one stop shop for out-of-towners like me! | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 hellomynameis (30) Mayer, Minnesota | October 27, 2004| Updated May 24, 2006 This is my normal beer stop. I’ve been impressed since the new ownership has brought in a few more USA micros. I feel as though much of the europeian selection is gone, or being sold with no plans to replace. The store has become a bit more oriented to wine, as every time I have been in there I have been offered samples of some kind of wine. Service has seemed to drop off a bit, again I think due to the wine push. I see a push on belgians and USA micros lately as the shelf space for everythign else has been diminishing. Once a staple, now I’m not sure. I’ll continue going here out of convieience, but will wait to see what the future holds. | 76 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 JK (206) Uptown, Minneapolis, Minnesota | October 8, 2004| Updated May 6, 2009 Very helpful service. They will let you buy one beer from a six pack, and the build your own six pack selection is large. Almost nothing in coolers, besides Viking. | 86 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 TruthBrew (1) Saint Paul, Minnesota | September 24, 2004| Updated May 6, 2009 Perhaps the new #1 store in town? Stop in to see for yourself. Excellent selection and service, now only if more of those 1,000+ beers were in coolers. | 92 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 badgerben (81) Blaine, Minnesota | September 24, 2004| Updated May 6, 2009 Oh good crikey... No disrespect at all to Blue Max, but I think Cellars is damn close in selection and close to surpassing. Excellent selection of European beers as well as a hefty Midwest stash. I was impressed by the selection of certain niches: about 6 ciders I had never heard of, most of the Cantillon and some in small bottles, Traditional Ales, etc, etc, etc. Well worth the trip. | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 footbalm (63) Western Minneapolis Suburbs, Minnesota | March 15, 2004| Updated May 6, 2009 I normally stop by her at least once a week as it is closer than Blue Max.The selection is great and getting better as Ryan always listens to your suggestions and has started to take great pride in building the Beer selection. The staff are enthusiastic about lending you a hand when you walk in the door.Even tho' I know what I want,it bothers me when employees sit on there ass when a customer comes in and you feel like you are a bother to them. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 Brewso (4) Mt Kisco, New York | March 8, 2004| Updated May 6, 2009 One of the best selections in the Twin Cities and for sure the best in the western suburbs of Minneapolis. Bells, Victory, Unibroue, Capital, Allagash, North Coast, Aventinus...plus excellent belgian and british sections. Just about half the store is dedicated to beer. Ryan is always available to show you what's new and talk beer. A must stop if you are travelling through the Twin Cities. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 Syd (26) Waconia, Minnesota | January 22, 2004| Updated February 6, 2008 I stopped by today on my way home. I was immediately welcomed and met the two guys on duty. One of them knew who I was from my RateBeer login. They are helpful, know their beer, nice, and pay attention to this site of ours. They are not quite Blue Max, but I saw plenty to indicate that they are better than Surdyk’s. For example, I picked up Cantillon Lou Pepe Pure Kriek and some Hair of the Dog. Who knew this was so close to home? Update 09/17/2004 -They now are equal to or exceed Blue Max. Do not pass this place up. Update: January 2008: This place was obviously bought out and renamed from when it was my GoTo shop. Some of the beer there has been there since the good old days a few years ago, but some moves well. There is a great selection, it just needs to be rotated - so watch those dates. I still go there every Friday and get something to rate as they always have something new. The Belgian selection is still top notch and rivals anything in the state. The staff wants to help, but it is not the same as having the old crew. |
