Popped in on my Philly pub crawl - 24/05/12. Was fairly quiet being 2.30pm but unfair to knock the ambiance rating down due to the time so have given a 4. Bar staff friendly, gave samples etc. Good choice from the 20 taps with offerings further afield than the east coast, Rogue, Great Divide amongst others along with local PA favourites.
Will definately head back here!

Great atmosphere- small and open air diner with 1940s theme: Varga girls. Tap list was impressive segregated into Session Blond, Strong Blond, Session Dark, Strong Dark, Cask. Had things there like Port Mongo, Older Viscosity, Flying Dog The Fear, Sly Fox, Prism, Yards. Good variety. Some of the kegs seemed to be a bit off. Staff was friendly and very knowledgeable about the local craft beer scene, which is gigantic in Philly. Very cool place. Food was outstanding: steak frites were top notch, sliders and burgers were very good. Went here three nights in a row. Definitely worth coming here for dinner and not just for the bar.

When I visited: Late September 2014.
What I had: Allagash Hugh Malone, Victory Wild Devil Ale, and Yards Cape of Good Hope on tap; Lancaster chicken for me; black kale and parmesan linguine, cocktail and a few glasses of sauvignon blanc for my fiancé; Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup beignets to split.
What I liked: Managed to grab seats right away on a busy Saturday night; nice understated décor with ample space between tables; my partner enjoyed her wine and cocktail; impressive draft list with a focus on local and regional crafters; all of our food was delicious; prices are reasonable for what you get (except for some of the bottles).
What I disliked: Our waiter was efficient but not that engaging; they were out of three beers that I wanted to try; tap lineup is very good but not among the best in the city.
Would I go back? Yes.
Overall Rating: 78

Very enjoyable visit here recently, and this is a nicely understated sidewalk bar with fine food and beer. Having just been to the laughable scene that is Farmer’s Cabinet, this unostentatious place was just the ticket. Ordered up some pickled veggies and spoke with the extremely knowledgeable server about the nicely extensive beer offerings. He steered me right twice, and that greatly enhanced the experience. Tons of brews from Prism, Sly Fox, Manayunk, and many others. I definitely hope to go back.

Just down the street from Tria you get more of a pub feel at Varga. The taplist is larger and the food choices are broader. The staff was friendly and the prices weren’t too bad. They had these amazing duck confit chicken wings and kobe beef sliders. They had a nice chalkboard of all the beer choices and the painting above the bar of some vintage babes was nice to look up at. Definitely a cool place to stop in at will have to come back in the summer to sit outside.

Has become a standard stop on my way home from dinner for a couple drinks. Love that fact that you can sit outside. They have an excellent beer selection that is frequently changing. When they run out of one beer they load up another one. Food is decent.

Let me preface by saying I will give the place another shot. The taps had a good selection and the bottle list was decent. The food was good pub food and fairly priced. Cool 40’s pin-up atmosphere. Major knock was the service. The bartender and waitstaff were very inattentive and hanging out at one end of the bar not paying attention to anyone. The bartender was not helpful and did not want to be bothered.

Nice place where you can sit outside and drink some good beers. Perhaps even engage in some in depth coversations about the city’s fine culture.

i love this place; awesome food, pinup art all over the walls/ceiling/bathroom... i usually stop in here before a phillies game for happy hour. half price beers! they always have additions to the menu, which is outstanding to begin with. they usually do not have the real hard-to-get stuff which is nice for me because it’s not crowded when i’m in there during the week for happy hour. great spot.
