Pub split in two parts, public bar and a plusher lounge up a small flight of stairs. No pretense here, just a boozer of the old school and a serene atmosphere to pass the time. Drank a couple of pints of Rum Porter from Boggart Clough and the beer was spot on. Locals friendly enough, toilets not the cleanest though.

A twin-roomed ground floor bar occupying a corner spot in whatís the start of one of the main business oriented areas of Liverpool. The bar itself is Victorian saloon in style so it doesnít adhere to the commercial part of the city it is in, but is a very welcome addition to it. The corner apex doors lead to the slightly cramped bar area with the service area centrally located against the long thin wall. Here thereís small stool serviced tables and a long bench seat against the main window opposite the bar. This place was packed with people watching Everton playing in their final Europa League match of the season when I was in there, but the room at the rear of the pub which was bigger and more relaxed had only a handful of people in there despite a television being available as well. So you can pretty much get the best of both worlds in terms of atmosphere here, with very traditional, comfortable and importantly appealing fixtures and fittings that hark back to yesteryear to be enjoyed.

I enjoyed my visit here as it was nice and relaxing, not too busy, not dead. WiFi worked and the beers were in good nick. Bar staff and locals were friendly.

Another solid pub. Basic on the inside but no bother with some good options on tap. Staff were friendly and happy to chat about the beers.

A traditional English, medium-sized, pub promoting a laidback mood and an uncomplicated atmosphere. Good variety of cask ales from breweries like Brains, Peerless, Cross Bay, Liverpool Organic and Boggart in addition to some Belgian bottled beers. There is a wide screen in the main room where we watch the live match between Man U and Man C. At our visit we noticed that some of the guests were drinking to Thatcherís death. The right kind of music was played, meaning Beatles, Stones, Animals, Kinks, Smiths and Clash. Friendly service. Vernon is located in the same street and only a few minutes from Ship & Mitre (visited, 08.04.2013).

Visited in januar 2012 on our pre-winter-ale-pubcrawl..
Old traditionel city pub, the bar is along the wall, and with lots of small round tables. In the back the eating area with bigger tables.
On the original windows the inscription says Liverpool Brewing Company.
Very nice range of beers, well conditioned as well.. The food was traditionel pub food, nothing spectacular, but great value for the money..

Back in a real ale business. Thanks for that. Boggart Rum Porter has become a tradition on every visit (2010).

Traditional place, fairly small but with a nice feel to it. Staff very friendly. Good selection of beers, a couple of decent whiskies too. Donít see it really busy too often, perhaps because of its proximity to the Ship and Mitre. All the same, itís worth stopping in for a pint.
