A real throwback of a pub with old world decor, more porcelain figures than you can count and a windowless snug past the bar. The selection is decent, with five varied handpulls as well as a huge array or whiskies. Prices are high for Durham and it can feel a little cliquey but still well worth a visit.

Traditional corner pub just alittle way out of the centre of Durham. 5 handpulls with real ales and a cider on tap. Cosy inside, and quite warm with the fire going.

An atmospheric, cosy and friendly pub with a good selection of local beers on cask. I had a tasty pint of a single hop beer from Durham and it went down very easily indeed.

Outstandingly preserved corner-site pub of 1899, the interior is a delight with three separate rooms. Original bar-back, counter, bench seating, bell pushes, fireplaces and service hatch. Friendly landlord serves 5 mainly local ales, and many whiskies. Voted by The Independent one of the best 50 B&B in the country.

Good pub, with a cracking original interior and roaring fires. Decent ale selection going at any given time, though the prices have gone up steeply in the past two years. Excellent selection of Scottish and Irish whisky however. Can get uncomfortably busy at times, and the fact that the fires are *always* going can make it unbearable for more than one or two drinks.

Two-roomed traditional pub with five real ales mainly from micro breweries, all at £3 per pint. Stained woodpanelling, fireplace and matching wallpaper & curtains. Display of carvings and porcelain mugs above the bar. Friendly staff and very pleasant locals who were entertaining and welcoming. My pint of Wylam Gold Tankard (4%) was excellent. Nice toasted sandwiches too. You will be very glad you visited. ADDITIONAL NOTES: Bed and Breakfast accommodation offered - please click on their website link for info.
