72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 15/20
Visited January 17, 2014.
This is in the Ferry building, right on pier 1. The whole building is a big tourist attraction but while youíre being taken advantage of shopping for cheese, mushrooms, homemade potato chips, and kitschy crap you can grab a good beer or two. What I should have asked is if you can drink beers on the ferry since the ferries leave right behind this store. In any case you can find AleSmith, Hair of the Dog, Rodenbach, Bruery, Dupont, Beersel, and Firestone along with some ciders and plenty of other beers. I was very impressed that a store like this would carry good beer. Maybe I shouldnít be surprised since beer is becoming main stream and expensive beers are gaining in popularity. The selection is pretty good but itís limited. Also, nothing is refrigerated and itís all pretty expensive. That said you can still get the Deschutes / Hair of the Dog collaboration Collage here.

Surprised at the lack of good beer places on the Embarcadero side of the City. Previous ratings are right on; the selection is quite well thought out but really not that small. If in the area and say, staying at the Hyatt, its a quick and easy walk to pick up a couple of exemplary brews. They have some of the better stuff also available cold in their cooler.

Very small, but startlingly well thought-out beer selection. Russian River Brux, Pliny, Row 2 Hill 56, and both the Chipotle and Vanilla versions of Stone Smoked Porter. I saw a few things here that I didnít see anywhere else in San Francisco. Cool little joint.

Visited on a recent trip to SF. I was surprised to find beer in the middle of the Ferry Building, but hey, no complaints. They had a small, but respectable selection of beers that I donít have access to on the east coast, which is always nice. Reasonable prices, too, for the most part. I went back to pick up a few bottles before I left.

Very small selection of beers, but there is a decent selection among what is there. A few from Deschutes as well as Bear Republic and Anchor. Itís not really a beer store per se, but if youíre in the ferry building itís worth popping in to see what they have.

This is what you call a specialty foods store. They have hard-to-find pantry foods, a great wine selection, and an excellent beer selection as well. Itís a small selection, but you never know what theyíll have this week. Itís worth it to check in here after you go to the farmerís market.
