Visited on a Saturday afternoon. Sat outside first on their patio, with a very nice view over the water onto some very characterful old buildings. Unfortunately there were 3 bachelor parties going on at the same time, and one of them was Dutch. Sorry fellow compatriots, but you are loud and obnoxious when abroad. Off to sit inside then: Small café with a worn interior, 2 stories with plenty seating. Staff was very busy and not very attentive, but they work hard and try their best to please all. Had the 3 decent house beers. Beer menu is extensive, but nothing really spectacular on there. Would definitely revisit again though.

Petit local sur le bord d’un canal, tout prêt du château Gravensteen. Vieillot et un peu poussiéreux, mais c’est ce qui fait son charme. Service rapide et bon prix. Choix de bière intéressant.

Spent more time here than any other place in Ghent. I was really, really pleased with their outdoor terrace. Ghent is a thoroughly beautiful city and this is as good a place as you’ll find to watch it go by. The service was superb and the beer selection was interesting enough. I found the city to be a little less beer obsessed than Brugges or Brussels but only a little. If there’s any sun in the sky, this is a fantastic place to be.

Nice place to get some classics. Bottle selection is decent. Taps are limited. Food is limited to snacks. Prices are fair. Cozy and warm inside on a cold and windy day in May.

Basic selection of Belgian beers in a cozy little pub on canal. Nothing really special in terms of selection but central pleasant location.

Visited regularly 2007-2015. - Hard to beat location, even harder to find a spot when it’s too chilly to sit on the terrace watching people drove & boats slowly motor by. Good range of oldschool heavy (Klokke Roeland) and cautiously dryhopped (Gandavum) housebeers and 1-2 monthly rotating taps, I believe. Nicely subtitled menu catering to all styles, including good Oud Bruin and Geuze chapters with very decent prices for 37,5cl bottles of Oude Geuze/Kriek, which I have seen at nearly double those prices in less interesting locations. In line with the touristic location, service can indeed be very slow and a bit dull when sitting outside or upstairs. Plus: they do a nice traditional snack plate with cheese and/or "uufflake/preskop" (head cheese aka pig’s head terrine) with characteristically strong mustard from their neighbours Tierenteyn. Selection: I don’t remember ever having seen a foreign beer on the menu here besides perennial Bitburger on draught, still the wisest choice as far as pils goes in BE. As for new wave beers, they do regularly have De la Senne (Taras Boulba, Zinnebir). Always a good first/early stop on a pub crawl through the city, before coming full circle at Dreupelkot later that night.

Really good beercafe with a relaxed, dark atmosphere, lots of space and people to fill it, fast knowledgable service... beers are mostly belgium but there are some odds one on the menu, also three house-beers ranging from dull to great... restaurant besides it is also great

I don’t know why a lot of my ratings got deleted or dissapeared. Last visit in 2012 I think. Hope to be back soon.

One of the most interesting of the Ghent beer pubs, located in a cosy and pretty corner near the Leie river. Great to sit outdoors in summer, but usually very crowded, and service tends to be on the slow side. Staff is not always knowledgeable about beer but most of them are friendly enough. Beer list is quite extensive and new beers feature regularly, but they do seem to focus on the larger breweries, I suspect because they prefer to stay on the safe side - it remains a tourist attraction, after all. Interesting though is that they have several noteworthy house beers which cannot be found elsewhere. (The owner, a well-known figure in Ghent pub life, used to have a shop on the opposite side of the river where they were also sold, but apparently this shop has closed down meanwhile.)
