78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 cratez (151) Toronto, Ontario | April 16, 2013| Updated May 18, 2013 When I visited: Late summer 2012.
What I bought: Summit EPA, Horizon Red Ale, Pilsener, and Summer Ale, Tröegs Dream Weaver Wheat, Lancaster Milk Stout, Sly Fox Pikeland Pilsner, Anderson Valley Hop Ottin’ IPA, Red Hook ESB, and others.
What I liked: Pretty sizable selection for a grocery store, lots of refrigerated sixers, cans, and bombers, good mix between US, Belgian, German, and UK offerings, well-organized shelves, specials section, cute and friendly cashier explained PA’s weird retail rules to me, managed to grab several beers that I had read about but never tried before.
What I disliked: Some of the bottles were quite dusty and old with a few past their BB date, had to buy 6 packs of beers that I would’ve otherwise bought singles of, but that’s due to the laws and not the store’s fault.
Would I go back? Yes. This is a convenient stop on the way back from Ohio, Pennsylvania, etc.
Overall Rating: 78 | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 16/20 cheap (136) Cheap Lager in Western, Pennsylvania | February 25, 2012| Updated May 18, 2013 Yes, this is a grocery store but it is quite unusual from what I’m used to. Lots of good beers in here and they are priced right. Food kiosks all over the place for fresh food of all varieties; oriental, barbecue, fried chicken - all kinds of taste bud delites. Lots of local brews on sale too. Tables all over the place to sit and enjoy if you like. I was quite surprised by the ambiance of this grocery store and the availability of the craft and import brews - better than the bottle shops in the area. | 72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 bierkitty (13) Elysburg, Pennsylvania | August 21, 2011| Updated May 18, 2013 Great selection for a PA grocery store, even with the arcane state beer laws. They had lots of good choices to make your own sixpack. We picked up a good variety of Octoberfests. The checkout trainee questioned the volume of our sale, but finally aggreed that we came in under the 192 oz allowed by PA state law. Did I mention that the state liquor and beer laws are just nuts? | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 MrBeerFanatic (12) Buffalo, New York | May 9, 2010| Updated May 18, 2013 Pretty good size grocery store as a whole as is the beer selection. Whether it be packs or singles, they have a little bit of every type of beer from many many different brewers. I noticed that many of there beers are actually cheaper than the Wegmans I live by(bigger selection to) and also cheaper than many other stores around the area. I was impressed overall at the selections and the prices. Good service to as always. | 72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 beergodd1 (11) Conneaut, Ohio | March 27, 2010| Updated May 18, 2013 Nice surprise, even though I was told how good it was, Very clean and tidy, every bottle and 6 pack in it’s place, A very large selection, I only wish they could get Goose Island.
The 1 person who asked if they could help was very knowledgeable, and we ended up talking for a Half hour, I hope he didn’t get into trouble.
The food smelled and looked incredible(for that type of buffet style food). several people eating but not drinking beer?
Other places here in Ohio....30 min. the other way from my house, have even more choices and more hard to find stuff, and will generally do my shopping there, but if I find my self in Erie, This is sure to be a stop.
It will be my next stop for beer....and the one on rt. 20 is even closer to my house here in Ohio, which has a slightly smaller selection.
| 62 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 10/20 rudolf (100) Buffalo, New York | October 22, 2009| Updated May 18, 2013 Wegmans is a huge Rochester, NY based supermarket. The Erie location has a decent enough selection of micros, though nothing super exciting. I managed to pick up 12 bottles of Bell’s Kalamazoo Stout. They don’t have anything too wacky - mostly they just have breweries main lines of products. Unsure if its a PA law or just store policy, but they limit purchases to 2 6 packs. | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 MrBunn (72) Western, Pennsylvania | March 19, 2009 While this is a supermarket in PA, they do sell six packs and singles and the prices are much better than in many of the "restaurants" that sell beer in the west part of the state. Selection was fairly impressive... an almost full line of Voodoo, some Bells, Weyerbacher, imports, and so forth. Nothing to get too excited about, but you don’t have to buy a case. Singles are mostly limited to bombers and high dollar stuff. I gave them a bonus point in the rating for working on ending PA’s arcane beer laws. Go man, go! |
