Just happened to go into this store to buy a couple of bags of ice and perhaps some session beer- and what a find! At least three long aisles full of craft beer. Tons of 22ís, six packs, a huge belgian and import aisle. You can buy singles of anything they have in 12 oz bottles. They had some stuff there than I havenít seen anywhere else in quite a while: Captain Lawrence NoríEaster, Xtra Gold (2006), as well as their Dubbel. Some heavyweight also on the shelves. Ambiance is typical beverage distributor warehouse. Staff knowledge and service was adequate to above average. I would definitely recommend this store to anyone traveling through Albany. the only con I noticed is that some of the bottles are quite dusty and may be past their prime, especially IPAís. I should note that this is the sister store of Oliverís (brew crew).
I am from the Detroit area, but stop in here when I am in the Albany area. They have a great section of beers I can't get back home like Alesmith, Firestone Walker etc. The staff is very helpful also. Worth checking out....
Probably the best place upstate NY for us Quebecers to get some outstanding US and import brews. Beats Winooski Beverage Warehouse in VT hands down. Some bottles had a layer of dust on them however so I avoided those just in case (unless they were really high abv). Staff is helpful, but I didnít ask many questions. They pulled out a Dogfish 120min from under the counter outta the blue and simply said: "We also have this, if you want" after I brought for about 200$ of brews at the cash register! I was happy to oblige! Definately worth checking out, donít let the outside of the building fool you.
Visited in Sept.2012.The choice of beers in very good, from the U.S. and imported.well placed easy to find, good and friendly service, very helpfull. It does look old and O.K. clean, but that was not what I was looking for,I was looking for a good choice of beers and I found it.
Looks like a warehouse or garage. Thereís a wide selection which continues to improve, especially in the last few month. The staff has become more knowledgeable in my opinion. Also, they started selling growlers.
They have a "New Releases" section for easy picking.
In this area, it doesnít get any better.
Visited for the first time, September 18, 2012. Wow! That is an ugly place and a little dirty, even the shopping carts are crusted. At least the selection is very good, especially the U.S. products, although the selection of imported beer is not spit at. Well divided by state and by country, it is quite easy to find what you are looking for, or at least if you do not know what you want to buy. The staff is very friendly and they are willing to help you if you ever need them. I would go back if Iím in Albany again!
Westmere is finally in the database, nice. Very similar to Olivers, but I like the staff here better. In general the two stores get very similar stuff, but not the same. I think the American selection here is arguably better while the imports are worse, but thats a generalization. Westmere is very close to my house, I get a lot of freebies and discounts, whereas Olivers rarely offers them. Itís my local beer store when Iím in NY...
My brother in law thoughtfully gave me $30 gift certificate here for christmas. Iíd never heard of before since i donít live in area but great choice. its a beverage center so no ambiance but staff was friendly and helpful. prices compared to city were great. i got a bunch of local to upstate brews which was nice and some belgians.
Iíve been to Oliverís before and this place is pretty much the same thing. Not much to look at inside or out with a mini warehouse setup but they make up for that with a pretty good beer selection. Theyíve got kegs and a growler station as well. The guy stocking the shelves offered me some assistance and the cashier was friendly too. My guess is this (or Oliverís) will have the best selection in the Albany area, probably getting most of whatís distributed in the area. They are starting to get Captain Lawrence on a more frequent basis, which is good. Singles are available of almost everything to purchase as well, a nice added bonus.
Read about this place on the website and since I was in the area, thought Iíd check it out. From the outside it is pretty un appealing. Looks like an old service station. Inside it is a warehouse atmosphere, but the selection is great and the staff friendly and helpful. They seemed to be "beer guys". They allow singles and they fill growlers which is unheard of where I live(NH). Prices were in line with anyplace else Iíve been. If your in the area, itís woth a stop.
