| 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 bleeng (123) Houston nowhere near Beersel, Texas | March 28, 2013 Visited here a few weeks ago. Busy and tight parking. Nice bar with some decent on-premises brews. Nice people behind the bar. Great bottle selection. Didn’t eat. Worth a visit when in Austin. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 14/20 Dixonian (116) Dallas, Texas | December 21, 2012 Stopped in on my way to San Antonio - very cool spot. Cross between convenience store, bar, and brew pub. Service was a bit lacking - the bartender didn’t know what I was asking for when it was clearly on their board. Decent selection of bottles in the coolers. I didn’t eat so can’t comment on the food. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 phaleslu (314) Cincinnati, Ohio | December 8, 2012 Stopped in looking for something specific but they were sold out of it. Hard to get to, on the I-35 outer road. Tight aisle with coolers but good selection. Even better because of the bar. Didn’t drink anything or eat. Great atmosphere inside. Really need to make a return visit to get the full experience. | 96 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 19/20 sjohnny (5) , | October 7, 2012 This place is awesome. Great selection. Great service. Knowledgable staff. | 96 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 jimmie65 (28) Texas | June 18, 2012 Heaven for the aspiring beer geek in me.
I came in looking for two cask beers they had on tap. Unfortunately, they had emptied them the night before. But they had plenty of other choices, including two casks from Jester King. 70 taps, including 41 local beers. And hundreds of bottles to either drink there or take home.
It was Sunday afternoon so we ended up with the manager as our bartender. Very helpful and informative, great service.
Whip In is a grocery store/bar with a small amount of indoor seating and a large patio. It is definitely an Austin place.
Close to a perfect score as far as I’m concerned, but I would have loved to have the option of 5 oz tasters. (Though they kept the 1 oz samplers coming all afternoon long, so it’s hard to complain.) | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 20/20 Beerenberger (24) Fischer, Texas | May 26, 2012 This is one of my favorite places to go to drink beer as well as buy hard to find beers. The Tex-Indian food is an added bonus. The staff is very knowledgable and very helpful. The beer selection on tap is amazing (they are great supporter of local breweries) and the bottled beer selection is large, with beers you can’t find anywhere else. If you are in Austin, the Whip In is the place to go.
| 68 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 BgThang (9) Texas | May 7, 2012 A lot of people love this place. Maybe because of the localism. When I first went here is was an actual corner store. now it’s transformed in to more of a place to grab a bite, some great craft beer, catch a live band, and have some good draught beer. THe prices in the past have been on the higer side. Lately these have changed to be more reasonable. Overall worth checking out. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 jmagnus87 (55) Rockford, Illinois | May 1, 2012 Stopped in here on Easter Sunday. Pretty sure this was the only place open in the entire state of Texas that day. Great service. Talked with on of their beer guys for about 20 minutes about what I was looking for and they had almost every thing I wanted. Got a bunch of Jester King, Saint Arnold, and Real Ale. Also got a Maui Brewing beer to knock out Hawaii, a Wasatch Polygamy Porter to take care of Utah, Sierra Blanca Roswell Alien Amber to knock out New Mexico and loads of other goodies. I can’t compare with other places in Texas, but most of the prices were lower than they are locally around me. Overall, perfect. I can’t wait to go back. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 SudsMcDuff (174) .....Manchester United.........., Texas | April 7, 2012 I loved this place!! .. the bartenders were cool .. the food was delicious and spicy .. the amount of locals on tap was A+++ .. . some singles for sale .. a great place and my new favourite stop in ATX!!! |
