Really nice pub in the centre of Oxford. Nice ambiance (traditional) and a nice selection of (local) beers. Food is ok and traditional pub-food. A good tip for whoever goes to oxford and is in search of a place to take a break.

If you like your pubs long and thin youíll love this place: if you donít like crowds and enjoy you own space, youíll hate this place.
You step down into a wide corridor someone turned into a pub some years back. We liked it as we forced our way towards the rear once Iíd managed to order the round for the 6 of us on our crawl (23rd Nov 2013). I couldnít really see much because of the masses but it looked twee and nicely attired. There was a picture of the 1923 Wembley crowd with the íWhite Horseí and a Cask Ale in his name íBillieí, I had a pint of it!

Decent place. Beer was disappointing, though, even by British standards. Numbers of bland session beers. Nothing out of the ordinary.

We did a nice crawl of town and this was my favorite pub, atmospherically. If you like yours tight and cozy then you might agree. The patronage was varied, and didnít feel as obnoxiously touristy as most. The beers were in top form, but itís not a "ticker" pub. They donít play music, either. Which adds rather than detracts from the atmosphere.

The White Horse is making a comeback in terms of beer. The boring old range is being replaced with interesting guests and the whole pub has blossomed again because of it.Small and cramped but packed with character, a must now on any Oxford tour.
Updated Dec í12 - This remains a very characterful pub, very popular and tight, particularly around the bar. It is certainly a must visit for people new to Oxford for its ambiance and location.

Another regular on any Oxford jaunt and whilst the beer choice maybe a little limited compared to some, you will almost always find one of the Shotover beers are on offer and in cracking nick. This really is one of the most cosy and welcoming pubs in the centre, just the sort of pub that deserves a visit on a cold winters day. The big table by the window is my favourite. It can and usually does get very busy but it really is worth popping into. Great pub, good service and very central.

A nice down to earth pub in the city centre with a small range of craft beers.
The White Horse is almost opposite the Sheldonian Theatre in the centre of Oxford. The beer range isnít huge but there are a few to choose from. The pub is entered down steps and anyone over about 5 feet needs to bend their head to get in safely. This is appropriate because it also has a low ceiling and itís quite a down to earth place. We sat at a large scrubbed pine table in the window. Iíd have liked to survey the scene from the one small round table in a little gallery at the back but it was already occupied.
Itís almost impossible to go in a pub in Oxford without coming across Morse and Lewis (it seems this is what Oxford is famous for, in addition to its being an important seat of learning) and the White Horse is no different. There are several mementos here - amongst others, a 2010 photograph of a smiling woman flanked by Lewis (Kevin Whatley) and Hathaway (Laurence Fox), an old black and white photo of Morse (John Thaw) and a very young Lewis plus a couple of colour photos of John Thaw.

Small, tight, crowded, hot and sweaty on Friday night. Well, it doesnít get any bigger any other night of the week. 5 casks. Touristic.

Low ceilings, dark, lots of exposed wood. I always get a kick out drinking in a place that feels like it has been serving beer longer than Europeans have been living in my country. Mine was a couple of pints of Greene King IPA which was well maintained cask ale on hand pump.
