Comments: New, modern tasting room to showcase White Labs’ yeast strains. They make a handful of base beers and then you can sample four or more versions of the same base wort fermented with various WLP strains. It is more of an educational experience than anything else. Great for understanding how yeast affects beer flavor. Excellent for getting your tick on as well. Any given time, there are probably over 20 new beers ticks to be had. It is close to Alesmith and many other SD breweries. Could be worth a stop.

Great place to check out how different yeasts affect your recipe. Sometimes they run out of a version making it hard to see the impact of the different strains on a particular batch.

Offered 15 beers in groups of 3-4, beers within each group being identical except for the yeast strain. Also a stout made with 96 different yeast strains!!
Nice artsy/sciencey atmosphere and decor. Bar plus table seating.
A must visit for homebrewers.

This place is super cool and the staff are always really nice - I really enjoyed the tour. I completely get the concept here - and appreciate it, but the beers are rarely good, some have been down right poor. Last time I was there, a big party bus with drunk idiots came in like a tornado touching down. Kinda ruined it for me.

We visited this lab/brewery on 24th of December 2013. It’s a yeast laboratory with a small home brewery attached, they opened a tasting room in middle of 2013. The lab produces around 100 yeast strains. You can taste the same beers with different yeast streams here, really interesting as you can taste the difference the yeast does make. They have one beer using all their 96 streams called Frankenstout, interesting taste. Absolutely recommendable as you will learn a lot about yeast.

This place is rad. Cool bar tender. Huge ever rotating tap list that highlights what their yeast can do. It’s a great way to sample by style before selecting a yeast for your homebrew.

Ok, so the place looks like a standard mid-scale taproom, the service was friendly and quick, prices ok, and it would’ve been a nice place to hang out if it weren’t for the beers. I can accept the beers being a bit boring, considering the use, but half of them were borderline crappy, with DMS and green apples, and a few were gone sour too. A pity, it could’ve been very interesting sitting there comparing the same beers fermented with different yeast strains.

The antibrewery brewery. They are not a brewery. They brew beer because they have to. They supply the world of craft beer with yeast. The beers are brewed with the exact same recipe and treatment, except for the yeast. You can get multiple examples of a brew, depending what’s on tap, to taste the difference the yeast makes, and therefore to decide which yeast you want to brew with. Great concept. Beer is good, but not great. The draw is the multiple variations of yeast. Worth the trip.

Lovely bar setting. Good soft barstools. Great selection of multiple styles. The yeast differences really show through. I just wish I could have taken the tour.
