Excellent Milton’s pub off the beaten track in Norwich. It concentrates on cask, with 4 Milton brews (including the wonderful Marcus Aurelius) and two guests. Light and airy and child-friendly, it offers a bit more than its Cambridgeshire counterparts in atmosphere if not beer selection. However the cider and perry choice is incredible and worth the trip here alone!

A cozy boozer. Nice range of Miltons on cask, plus a few guests. Friendly and inviting barmaid. Good value. Nicely conditioned ales. Low-key, old school vibe. Definitely worth a stop if you are in Norwich.

Visited august 2015 with beery friends. Very cosy old, multiroomed pub. Beers mainly from Milton beers, and beside a nice selection of ciders. Cosy atmosphere, friendly staff, seemed as a pub for the locals. Had some very nice sausage rolls :-).. Worth a visit

The beers in the White Lion are mainly from Milton (there are eight hand pumps and a bottle list of around twenty assorted beers) but the real draw is the cider and perry list, with 20 or more chalked up on a board and listed by area. The list also includes a couple of meads. It was interesting to note the very different character of the regional ciders. For Norfolk cider the “medium” tasted sweet and the “very dry” merely dry-ish whereas, because the apples are different, West Country ciders classified as “very dry” would be mouth-puckeringly so. The pub doesn’t look particularly old but I imagine it probably is. It has low ceilings, exposed beams and quarry tiles on the floor. It’s “over the water” (i.e. north of the river) and mainly a locals’ place. If I lived locally I’d probably pop in every now and then for one of their cider and onion sausage rolls - they were delicious! (Visited 3 August 2015).

I really like this place. It has recently undergone a management shift and things are certainly promising. It’s still connected to the Cambridgeshire-based Milton brewery, offering a good selection of the brewery’s beers as well as a few handpumps dedicated to guests. On my visits the beers have always been in impeccable condition. The bottle range is fairly small but should cater to all tastes. Numerous ciders are always available, with one of the best ranges in the area. The new managers seem knowledgeable about their products and service is faultless, friendly and welcoming. Atmosphere has always been pleasant and unassuming, like the decor. It’s certainly one I intend to visit more this year and possibly sample the food menu which, to date, I haven’t. One to check out if you’re in the area; you can’t go far wrong.
