Visited on Friday 4th March 2016. Stopped for a beer on the way to Simon’s Stag at the Twisted Barrel. A little low door gets you access, a couple of rooms, all old and rough looking. Decent range of beers on the bar from midlands breweries. Beer was in decent condition, service was decent. Not a bad place overall.

Re Visit Jul ’14 New mark 74. This iconic Coventry pub is showing some wear & tear around the edges, smaller range of beers which have proved to be a little tired of late. Just getting scruffy imo. Slightly lower mark from me now.
Jun ’08 Total Score 86. Old building on the West side of the town centre. Only a pub since 2001 but the building shows an immense amount of history. I had the full tour, which was worth the effort and if this building was transported into Oxford or London it would be a bit of a shrine. Good beer range and friendly staff. Top notch.
Re Visited Dec ’12 Mark 86. Escaped the pre Christmas present dropping off ceremonies at the in-laws by touring Cov again and this place is a real magnet. A decent range of Real Ales, a good friendly atmosphere, lots of people having lunch. A very decent place to go, worth the effort.

Going here based on the previous reviews I think this place might be a bit under the radar. The interiors certainly feel as if they date to the 14th century - small rooms connecting to a central bar. Out back is a patio where it was possible to find shelter from the heat.

There were four or six beers on during the visit along with the usual Carling taps. It might not have been a diverse selection but I think it did a decent job. I do wish the music were not quite so loud which resulted in leaving a little sooner than planned. Otherwise this is a good stop if you find yourself in Coventry.

Ye olde medieval pub except its not always been a pub. Good selection. Music can be intrusive but well worth a visit

Usually has around 6 real ales from small breweries on tap and a small but varying range of bottled beers. In a 14th century building which adds to the atomsphere.

Hit it during the midday. Got a full tour of all the floors with interesting historical details on why the old parts were the way they were, and on preservation efforts. There were a lot of ales that were craft rather than mass produced. A great experience.

An old building with a long history; the exposed wooden beams, stone floors, church pews and stained glass make it a tourist’s wet dream. The beer is as good as the surroundings, four beers on tap when I visited with a further 16 chalked on the board as ’coming soon’. Aspalls cider on draught. Food is simple and wholesome; plenty of doorstep butties, both a ’monster’ and ’average’ cooked breakfast, Sunday lunches and the best ham, egg & chips that I’ve had in a pub. Great atmosphere, popular with beer bods and locals alike. A few minutes walk from the cathedral and an excellent second hand bookshop, an essential place to visit if you ever end up in Coventry.

This is reputedly a 14th century building and it looks genuine enough, with its beams and low ceilings. This place is a short walk from Cov citycentre, on the way to the football ground, and is a buzzing repository of real ale fans and around 6 rotating taps of micros. A nice place which looks committed to good beer.
