The first thing I noticed about this place was how late they’re open.
Rex Banner: Open up Curly, this is a raid.
Moe: Raid? Curly? OK, but I don’t know what you expect to find in a friendly neighborhood pet shop...
Rex Banner: Answer me this: what kind of pet shop is full of rambunctious yahoos and playing hot jazz music at 1am?
Moe: Uhh, the best damn pet shop in town?
So they’re not open until 1 but they are open until at least 11 during the week. Remember, this is a grocery store, not a bar, though apparently if you buy bottles you can take them upstairs to the café area and open them. Or maybe you can’t but I did see several open Anchor Steam bottles on a table across from one of the food vendors. Downstairs in the main store area you’ll have a tough time finding the beer if you’re just wandering the aisles. There is only one small refrigerated section with a pretty lackluster selection. Across from that though are some bourbon barrel aged pickles and whiskey barrel sauerkraut. I got a kick out of that but naturally I didn’t buy any of it. Beyond the huge line to check out, next to the exit is a small stair case that goes down into a much larger beer area. There is a counter in the middle that fills growlers and all around the walls are tons of beers, half of which are kept cold. It looks like you can break six packs too. Pretty cool. I grabbed a couple of beers from an English brewery that I hadn’t heard about that looked interesting. The bottles advertise that they use wild yeast. I also got something with chicken feathers glued to the bottle. Hmm. Prices weren’t terrible on the beer, like they are for the food. So there’s that. Coupled with a good selection and the option for growlers this is definitely a worthy stop if you’re bottle shopping.

Great selection. A little pricey but it is Manhattan. Not much service had a few questions could find anyone to help. If you are looking for a beer distributed to this area you ll likely find it here.

My go-to bottle shop. They are open late and have a lot of great choices, at the lowest prices around. There are people who work here who know their stuff. They used to sell a lot of homebrew supplies, but discontinued that. It is sad to say but I think a lot of foks (myself included) have discovered that NYC apartments are not the best places for brewing beer. I could grumble a bit about the growler selection, which can be a mixed bag, but sometimes has some exciting surprises. Make no mistake, this place sets the standard for New York City bottle shops.

Ok prices. Good service well lit and clean. (It’s Whole Foods).
Solid selection but nothing super rare. They did have KBS in at market prices and were going to hold some for me when I found out their price (which was reasonable market) was not for a 6 pack but a single bottle.
Decent place and many of the beers are refrigerated. Ok foreign selection much better domestic seleciton.

Bottle shop and food market around the bock from New Beer Distributors. I found that most of the beers here were also available at New Beer, where they were slightly less expensive. They did have a few beers that had sold out at New Beer that I picked up. Worth visiting if you are in the area, but not really a destination place for me.

The staff are really helpful here. Nice tastings as well. Good selection. I really like it here and often make the 50 block trip to find some new things. Not as big as New Beer but I find it more user-friendly...
