88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 savnac (224) Anchorage, Alaska | April 8, 2013 Big, nice, high end grocery store, WITH A BAR!!!! Great service in the bar area, mostly self serve but they will come check on you if it gets slow. You can get food from the various counters and chill in the bar area and drink. Great draft selection and you can open any bottle that they have on the beer isle. Value was really good all around, we had a couple beers and took some to go as well. This place is amazing, this would be my go to grocery store if I lived near by. | 84 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 rickyleepotts (7) Scottsdale, Arizona | February 22, 2013 Whole Foods rocks. I have only been to the Chandler location once, but when I was there, I had a blast. They have an incredible selection of draft (and bottled/canned) beers, and their prices are great. They also have an impressive list of bottled beers that are cold and you can buy and open there without an extra charge. Oh, and James Swann is the beer guy there. I haven’t met him yet... but he is VERY active on Facebook. Just a fun place to hang out and drink beer. | 92 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 DesertDevil (1) Arizona | January 16, 2013 Is it odd that my favorite nearby stop for a pint or two is inside a grocery store? Perhaps it is, but that should speak volumes about the quality of the Watering Hole inside Whole Foods. The bar has 31 taps pouring good local selections and great (and often rare) brews from all over. The nice craft beer selection is due mainly to head honcho/beer buyer James Swann. If Arizona has a very limited supply of a much-sought beer, there’s an excellent chance James will get one of those kegs. His beer classes on Fridays feature a lineup usually based on style or brewery and have become a fixture in the local craft beer community. The few drawbacks include the fairly small seating area, and the long lines that can emerge during busy times/big events (there’s usually a maximum of two people pouring behind the small bar). Bottle selection is damn good, though often a wee bit more pricy than other nearby shops. Overall, this place is tops in the SE Valley among beer bars. | 84 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 19/20 mikedR (4) Gilbert, Arizona | January 8, 2013 The primary place where I buy beer in Arizona. Incredibly good selection, including Belgians. For California breweries, it seems to take them a week or two to get the new things in stock. | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 JPDurden24 (110) Chandler, Arizona | April 8, 2012 Who ever thought of drinking awesome beer at a grocery store? Well this is the place. Friday nights are hopping with beer class linking a different style or brewery and brining the craft beer community together. James and John are knowledgeable behind the bar, and always a great selection on draft, plus one of the best bottle selections around on the beer wall. You will enjoy having a great brew..Cheers! | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 18/20 Terminus (278) Las Cruces, New Mexico | February 29, 2012 Wow this place is insane!!!!! I have never been to a whole foods that has a bar along the side of the place with 32 taps! this is killer! great selection and the beer manager there is really friendly. This could be the best place in Phoenix for beer. The bottle selection is solid and always rotating stock so you get fresh stuff. I have to go back to this place! | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 Swillbur (24) Arizona | January 25, 2012 I have been going to Whole Foods Chandler to get alot of my beer for some time now. When i first heard of this place i had to check it out. Right when you hit the beer aisle you are in wow. There has to be over 1000 different kind of beers on the wall. After seeing this you walk over to the watering hole and find 31 CRAFT beers on tap! At first the drafts were a bit high priced but now the prices are pretty good. All the beers are just 4 dollars on Sat through the summer from 4pm to close and i hope they keep that special after the summer is over! You can walk around the store and there are various places to eat and all of them are pretty good. All in all it’s one of my go to spots!
| 80 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 snotrocket (8) | December 4, 2011 Who’d ever think you’d have a beer bar with 30+tap handles inside a grocery store?!?! The selection here puts it in the top 5 beer bars in the PHX area. Great happy hour prices ($4 a pint all day saturday!), large cooler selection and James is very knowledgeable behind the bar. They do get some nice limited releases but you usually have to join their beer class that night to get the first crack at them. Service is good when James is behind the bar but since it is a store, there are times when no one is around servicing the bar. Also being that it is in a grocery store, it isn’t that intimate of a place. Overall, I’m very happy that the Watering Hole is thriving. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 18/20 parrotheadkrm (1) Gilbert, Arizona | November 26, 2011 One of my favorite places in Arizona to grab a beer! James is awesome, knowledgable, and friendly. The only knocks I have on the place, can get very tight on Friday and Sat night, and sometimes, if you are there early, its a little difficult to find someone to help you. Aside from that, pretty much a perfect place to have a beer! | 92 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 DiarmaidBHK (523) Pennsylvania | October 23, 2011 Once you get past the idea that there’s a bar in a grocery store which I think is pretty cool you realize what an awesome place this is. They have over 30 drafts of local and regional crafts with lots of unusual offerings. The bartender is a real beer geek and his enthusiasm is infectious. The store itself has the longest cooler I’ve ever seen full of craft beer including a nice section of bombers. These are the kinds of experiences which make craft beer fun. |
