The downtown store is the flagship/corp headquarters, and it really shines. As has been said before, selection slightly subpar relative to CM. The cooler is snazzy. Just go check it out, if just for the prepared food...

Great beer selection and awesome food in the store. The only bad part about looking for beer was that you got cold because you had to walk into the fridge. Very knowledgeable staff that will help you with any question.

A massive store, good beer selection for Texas. Has the common American craft beers along with some stuff on the mildly hard to find. Real Ale, and Independence brewing are here. Make sure to watch the weather for Smug warnings though because the people are very hybrid car im better then the others because im a trendy organic food eating prick.

Definitely a large selection but not as impressive as their main competitor. Plus you have to stand around inside that ridiculous cooler while you browse which is a novel idea, but absolutley ridiculous in practice. I like that they have a beer tasting counter, but I’ve only seen them using it once.

Had some good somewhat rare beers, a tad pricey but you get quality...i love the cooler

For Austin, I think this Whole Foods almost ties Central Market, but not quite, for selection. Nice atmosphere, though, and the focus is, as Julrey said, whittled down very slightly from what Central Market has, yet focuses on the better beers. Very cold in the arctic beer room.

I was a little disappointed the first time I visited the new Whole Foods as they’d made the mistake of advertising a selection of 800 beers prior to the store opening. I knew that you couldn’t get that kind of selection in Texas, but figured they’d at least carry everything that you could get. This didn’t turn out to be the case, but on further explorations I think my initial impression was a bit off base. You can tell by the size of their walk in cooler ("Beer Alley") that they can’t possibly stock as much beer as Central Market or the Whip In, but it seems Whole Foods has weeded out many of the mediocre American micros rather than going for the whole enchilada. There’s a lot to be said for a complete selection, but I can’t fault them too much for lacking beers that I probably wouldn’t have bought anyway. Finally, it should be mentioned that Whole Foods does do sales on full cases, something no other store in Austin does to the best of my knowledge.

A good place to buy beer in Austin on Sunday, just have to hit it after noon. Not as many locals as Grapevine, but they did have more Belgians it appeared. I picked up a Duvel 4-pack + glass for $11, so I’m quite happy. There’s a new Whole Foods building going in across 6th street from the current location.
