Visited on Saturday 07/11/14 around 4pm. We found this medium to large facility to be pretty busy despite it being a little before dinner time, although we squeezed our group of 5 onto a large bench.
Smart decor inside, wooden floors, mix of high and low bench and table seating. Check out the long bench in the middle of the room that is set across a step in height. Tall stools on one side, short on the other. Swap them over and play giants vs dwarves!
23 beers on tap during my visit, standard range plus a good dozen or so one offs/seasonals so well worth visiting here for some interesting Widmer ticks.
Beers available in tasting flights of 6. Bottled beers also worth checking out where I picked up a new CDA rate, these can be taken away.
Good atmosphere, largely adults although a few family groups started to show up for dinner around 5pm. Service was very good. Food wise we just graised a little, they do fondue here which was fun to share with some dipping bread.
Overall a solid stop and lots of limited release Widmer beers to take on, most of which were decent and hitting the 3.4-3.7 scores from my rating perspective.

Very nice place. Why did I wait so long? A bunch of Widmer taps, more than 20. Great seasonals, Barrel Aged stuff etc. Good service and good German themed food. They also have a bottle and growler shop attached. The brewery is huge. Sort of out of the way, so easy enough parking.

Visited on a Tuesday afternoon in August. Large rooms, with high ceilings, lamps dangling from very long cords, brick, wood floor, and red walls. Only one silent TV. Very pleasant atmosphere at lunch time. Moderately crowded and a bit noisy, but not bad. (I went once, a few years back, on a weekend evening, when it was ridiculously crowded and the service was... not so good). This time, the young server was enthusiastic and eager to talk beer. 24 taps (not all on): Four year-round brews; four seasonals; and thirteen small batch brews. $5 pints. $12 tasting set of six 5-oz glasses. $1 off on pints during Happy Hour, which is 2-5pm Mon-Fri. Food is good, a cut above the typical pub fare. Sandwiches, burgers, sausages, and a selection of gluten-free choices. Widmer has been upping its game for the past several years. They had been resting on their laurels and depending too much on their flagship Hefeweizen. These days the beer is all good to very good. Go there and see -- but go during daylight hours.

The Widmer facility overall is quite large, but the tap room is actually not that big. We found on our visit a lot of specialties on tap, almost all of which were interesting and well-made. This really made for an enjoyable stop, and certainly anyone bored with the regular Widmer offerings will get a contrasting view of the brewery working through the lineup of aged, barreled, and esoteric offerings here.

Modern feel to this nice brewpub with a large selection of Widmer beers on tap. General quality of the beers is average. Prices are a little higher for Portland, but still reasonable. Service was very friendly. If youíve exhausted

Based on a visit a year ago. Nice venue. Lots of wood. Great service. The limited selection (a surprise beer - not a comment on the number of beers available) was nice. Not too many people while I was there, so a little conversation with staff was available. Shouldnít be missed.

I did not expect much from the tap room of the largest brewery in Oregon, but I was pleasantly surprised. First, the place is not as large as it looks considering the size of its building. Itís no German bierhall, although you could not call it cozy and warm either. Instead, itís a large brewpub with a family friendly restaurant. Staff was very attentive, but did not seem to focus on the beer so much. Thatís unfortunate, because I felt it was their strongest point. I was actually surprised by how poor the food was, straight pub grub, I actually had to return my first plate, short ribs that were badly overcooked. The plateís presentation was not particularly beautiful either. Nothing scandalous, but under average for a brewpub and since youíll hit so many of these in Portland, it would be wise to eat elsewhere. That leaves you with the beer. I was very impressed with Widmerís specialties. First, they donít need them, but they care about beer and aim at satisfying both people who care only for a weizen and those with more adventurous tastes. Secondly, their specialities were all very tasty, impeccably done and often very original. Frankly, the beer was as good as in many breweries with greater reputations. the Gasthaus may not be the most welcoming bar to come to strictly for the beer, but if you want to be surprised by a large brewery who respects critical beer geeks like yourself, hereís your very good chance.
